The City Co.oil o~ the City of South San Prancisco do
ordain as follows:
Section 1~ Ail stores in the City of South '~an ?rancisco
in which any food, fruit, and meat are sold at retail shall be closed
at the hou~ of 7 o'clock p. m. of each business day, exceptin~ Satur-
days, and shall remain closed until the hour of 5 o'clock a. m. o~ the
next succeeding day. 0n Saturdays all such stores shall be closed
at the hour of 9 o'clock p. m. The word ~'ffood", as used herein,
shall be construed to mean the kinds of food ~o~ h~an consumption
custo~rily sold in grocez'y stores. The word "food", as used he?ein,
shall not include any place where bona fide meals are sold'
Section 2. Ail stores in the ~ty off South can l~rancisco
in which any d~y goods, clothing, jewelry, hardv~a~'e, and sporting goods
are sold at retail and stores in which shoe repairing is done shall
be closed at the hour of 7 o'clock p. m. of each business day, except-
ing Saturdays, and shall remain closed until 5 o'clock a. m. off the
next succeeding day. 0n Saturdays all'smch stores shall be closed at . -
the hour off 9 o'clock p. m.

Section o. All barber ~ops in said ~ty of ~ uth 2sn
P~rancisco shall be closed at the hour' of Y o'clock ~. m. off each
business day, excepting Saturdays, and shall remain closed m~til
5 o'clock a. m. off the next succeeding day. On Saturdays all such
barber sh. ops shall be closed at the hour of 9 o'clock p. m.
Section 4. Nothing contsined in this ordinance shall prevent
the sale off mezcha~dise to, or renderin{: service to all persons who
have actually entered such. stores or barber shops prior to the time
herein fixed flop closing.
Section 5. Any person, i'irm or corporation who or which~
shall violate any provision of this ordinance shall be guilty of &
misdemeanor and, upon conviction thereof, shall be punished bY a
fine not exceeding One Hundred Dollars ($I00.00), or by imprisonment
for a period not exceeding thirty [SO) days, or by both such fine and
imprl ~onment.
Section 6. If e~uy seation, sentence, clause or phrase
of this ordinance is for any reason held to be invalid, or un-
sona~itutlonal, such decision shall act affect the validity of the
re,sizing portion of this ordinanae and the City Council of the
City of South ~an Francisco hereby declares that it would have
passed t-his ordinance and each section, sentence, clause and phrase
thereof, irrespective of the fact that a~y one or more other sections,
sentences, slauses or phrases be ~eclared invalid or unconstitutional.
Section ?. This ordinance shall be published once in
"The Enterprise and the ~outh ~an Francisco Journal", a new~rpaper
of genel'al circulation, published and circulated in the Oity off
~outh ~n Francisco, and shall take effect and be in force from
and a~fter the expiration of thirty (50) days after its passage and
adopt ion.
