The City Council of the City of South Sa~.~ Francisco do
ordain as follows:
Section 1. Section 4 of Ordinance No. 84 of the City of
South San Francisco entitled "An ordinance licensing and regulating
the operation of automobiles for hire and the public transportation
of passengers therein within the City of South San Francisco'D passed
July 6, 1915, is hereby amended, so that said Section 4, as amended,
shall read as follows:
Section 4. In order to insure the safety of the public,
it shall be unlawful for any person to drive or operate such automobile
for hire or to obtain a permit therefor, unless he shall have given and
there is in full force and effect at all times while such person is
driving arid operating such automobile for hire, on file with the City
Clerk of said City a policy of insurance of the owner or lessee of
said automobile for hire, issued by a responsible surety company
or association authorized to do business under the laws of the State
of California, and approved by the City Council of said City of South
San Francisco, in the sum of ~'ifty Thousand Dollars ($50,000.00),
conditioned that the owner or lessee of such automobile for hire,
for which a permit has been applied, will pay all loss or damage that
may result to any person or property from the negligent operation of
or defective construction of said automobile for hire, or which may
arise or result from any violation of any of the provisions of this
ordinance, or the laws of the State of california. Such policy of
insurance shall be give~ to the City of South San Francisco and shall
inure to the benefit of any and all persons suffering loss or dan~age
either to persons or property as herein provided, and suit may be

l~surance by' any' person', or persons or corporation suffering any loss
or damage as her~in provided. '].'he permission granted by' said City'
Council, as herein provided, shall recite that the permit is issued
upon condition and in consideration of the filing of said policy of
insurance.
Said policy of insurance shall be a continuing liability,
notwithstanding any recovery thereon, and if at any time, in the
judgment of said uity Council, said policy of insurance is not suf-
ficient for any cause, said City uouncil may require the party to
whom such permit is issued as herein provided, to replace said policy
of insurance with another policy of insurance setisfactory to said
City Gouncil and in default thereof said permit may be revoked.
Section Z. This ordinance shall be published by one
insertion in "The Enterprise and The South San Francisco Journal",
a newspaper of general circulation, published and circulated in
said City of South San Francisco, and shall take effect and be in
force from and after the expiration of thirty (30) days after its
adoption.
