ENTITLED, 'AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING A SYSTEM FOR THE
ASSESSMENT, LEtF~ AND COLLECTION OF ALL CITY TAXES IN
THE CITY OF SOUTH 8AN FRANCISCO", passed and adopte~[
on the 19th day of April, 1909.
The City Council of the City of South San Francisco do or-
dain as follows:
Section 1. ~ection g$ of 0rdinanee No. 81 of the City of

the assessment, levy and collection of all City taxes in the City of
8curb San Francisco", passed and adopted by the Boar~ of Trustees
of the City of South $an Francisco on the 19th day of April, 1~0~,
ia hereby amended ac that said Section 55 shall, as amended, read(
aa follows:
Section gg. Within ten days after the receipt of the assees-
merit-roll the Tax Collector must publish a notice in some newspaper
published in said City of South ~an Francisco, or if none is published
therein, he shall peat the same in three public places in the city
specifying:
1. That the taxes on all personal property secured by
real property, and one half of the taxes on all real property, will'
be due and payable on the third Tuesday in 0etober, and will be de-,
linquent on the fifth day of December next thereafter, at five o'clock'
p. m. and that unless p~mid prior thereto, five {$) per cent will be
ad~ed to the amount thereof, and that if said one half be not paid
before the goth day of April next, at five o'clock p. m. an additional
two (~} per cent will be added thereto. That the remaining one-half of
the taxes on all real property will be payable on and after the gOth
day of ~anuary next and will be delinquent on the gOth day of April next
thereafter, at five o'clock p. m., and that, unless paid prior thereto,
two' (g} per cent will be added to the amount thereof; provided, however,

that when December fifth, or April twentieth, falls on Saturday,
taxes shall become delinquent at twelve o'clock noon on either, date.
2. That all taxes may be paid at the time the first
installment, as herein provided, is due and payable. That the taxes
on all personal property unsecured by real property are due an~
payable between the third Tuesday in $ctober and the fifth day of
December next thereafter.
5. The times and places at which payment of taxes may
be made. The notice in every case must be p~bllahed for two (~)
weeks in acme weekly or daily newspape~ of general circulation
published in the city, if there is one; or if there is none, then by
posting it in three public places in the city.
Section 2. Section 35 of said 0r~inance No. E't is hereby
amended as that said Section 35 shall, as amended, read aa follows:
~ection ~. On the fifth day of December of each year, at
five o'clock p. m. all taxes, ~then unpaid, except the last install-
sent of the real property taxes, are delinquent, and thereafter the
Tax Collector must eolleat, for the use of the city, an addition~of
five ($~ per cent thereon; provided, that if they be not paid-before
the ~0th day of April next succeeding, at five o'clock p. m..,he shall
collect an addition of two (E) per cent thereon. On the 20th day of
April of each year, at five o'clock p. m. all the unpaid portion of
the remaining one-half of the taxes on all real property are delinquent,
and thereafter the Tax Oollector must collect for the use of the ·
city, an addition of two ~EI per cent thereon; provlded~that the
entire tax on any real property may be paid at the time the first
installment, as above provided, is due and payable.
Section 3. ~ectlon 43 of said ordinance No. ~1 is hereby
amended as that Section 4~ shall, as amended, read aa follows:

In all cases where real estate has been sold, or
may hereafter be sold for delinquent taxes to the City, and the City
has not disposed of the same, the person whose estate has been,
or may hereafter be sold, his heirs, executors, administrators, or
other successors in interest, shall, at amy time after the same
has Been sold to the City, and before the City shall have disposed
of the same, have the right to redeem such real estate by
to the Treasurer of the city, the amount of taxes, penalties, and
costa due thereon at the time of said sale,, with interest ?n the
aggregate amount of said taxes, at the rate of seven per cent per
annum; and also, all taxes that ware a lien upon said real estate
at the time said 'taxes ~ecame delinquent; and also all unpaid taxes
of every description assessed against the property for each yea~
since the sale; or if not so assessed~ then upon the value of the
property as assessed in the year nearest the time of such r~demption,

with interest from the first day following each of said
years, respectively, at the same rate, to the time of redemption;~
and also all costa and expenses of such redemption. The City Clerk
shall, on the application of the person desiring to redeem, make an
estimate of the amount to be paid, and shall give him triplicate
certificates of the amount, specifying the several amounts thereof, \.
which certificates shall be delivered to the City Treasurer, together
with the money, and the Treasurer shall give triplicate receipts, written
or endorsed upon said certificates, to the redemptioner, who shall
d~liver one of said receipts to the City Clerk, and re-deliver one ·
to the City Treasurer, taking their receipts therefor, and may
record one in the office of the county Recorder. Upon tender of the
fee for acknowledgment, the Treasurer shall acknowledge either of
said receipts so as to entitle the same to be recorded. Upon the pay-
ment of the money specified in said certificate, and the giving of
the receipts aforesaid by the Treasurer, any deed or certificate of sale
that .may have been made to the City shall become null and void, and
all right, title and interest acquired by the city, under and by
virtue of the tax sale, shall eease and ~etermlne, The resorting
of one of the reeeipts of the City Treasurer, as aforesaid, in
the offiee of the County Reeorder, in the book of deeds, shall
have the same effect as that of a dee~l of reeonve.~anoo of the
interest conveyed by such deed or eex-tlfieate of sale.

the expiration of thirty {30) ~ays after its adoption.
