CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANOISCO.
The City Council of the City of South San Francisco
does ordain as follows:
Section 1. Whenever any work of grading on any land
in the City of South San Francisco, other than on a public
street or highway, is proposed, which grading work will affect
the natural flow of surface water over the land on which such
grading work is proposed to be done, the cost of which work
will exceed Three Hundred Dollars ($300.00), permission to do
the grading work mentioned in this section must be obtained
from the city council.
Section 2. Whenever any grading work on any land in
said city is proposed to be do~e, which will affect the natural
flow of any stream in said city, permission to do grading work
mentioned in this section must be obtained from said city
council.
Section 3. A written application must be made to the
city council for permission to do any such grading work. Such
application shall contain an accurate description of the land
on which it is proposed such grading work shall be done. Such
application shall be accompanied by a map delineating the
boundaries of such land, and shall show the existing elevations
of the parts of the land proposed to be graded and the elevations
ut which it is proposed to cause said land to be graded. Where
it is intended to cause a course of any stream to be changed
by such grading work, such map shall show the existing course
of the stream and the course at which it is proposed to relocate
the stream.
Section ~. On receiving such application, it shall be
referred to the works engineer for his examination and report of

his recommendations as to the proposed grading work.
Section 5. On receipt of the report provided for in
Section 4 hereof, the city council shall consider the same and
may, by resolution, grant the application, subject to such
regulations as may be necessary for public protection and the
protection of property in the vicinity of the land proposed
to be graded, and may authorize the city clerk to issue to the
applicant ape rmit for the grading worko
Section 6. On receipt Of such application, the city
counoil shall require the applicant to pay to the city clerk
such sum of money as said city council may decide to be reason-
ably necessary to defray the expense of the examination and
the report of the works engineer.
Section 7. Ail grading work herein provided for shall
conform strictly with the provisions of the permit which may
be authorized by the city council and under the direction of
the works engineer. Before any permit for grading work may be
issued pursuant to the grant of such application, the applicant
shall pay to the city clerk such sum of money as may be
determined by the city council as the fee for the inspection
of the work to be performed by the works engineer.
Section 8. No grading work shall be done in such
manner as to cause injury to any property in the vicinity of
the land where such grading work is performed.
,Section 9. ~ny person, persons, firm or corporation
who shall violate any provision of this ordinance shall be
deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon convicition thereof,
shall be punished by a fine of not less than One Hundred Dollars
($100.00), and not exceeding Five Hundred Dollars ($500°00)
or by imprisonment for a period not exceeding three (3) months,
or by both such fine and imprisonment. If the offense be a
continuing one from day to day, it shall constitute a new
violation for each calendar day on which such violation may
occur or continue°
Section 10. This ordinance shall be published by
one (1) insertion in The Enterprise, a newspaper of general
circulation, published and circulated in said City of South
San Francisco.
