AN OADINANCE OF Tt{g CI~ OF SOUTN SAN
FRANCISCO AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 216,
WHICH IS KNOWN AS THE "CIVIL SERVICE
ORDINANCE", PASSED AND ADOPTED BY THE
CITY COUNCIL OF SAID CITY ON DECEMBER
15, 1941 BY CREATING THE OFFICE OF
SUPERINTENDENT OF SEWAGE TREATMENT
PLANT AND BY ADDING SAID OFFICE AND
ALL SUBORDINATE POSITIONS TO THE
CLASSIFIED SERVICE OF SAID CITY.
The City Council of the City of South San Francisco does
ordain as follows:
Section 1. Section 5 of Ordinance No. 216, which
is entitled: "AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SOUTH SAN
FRANCISCO CREATING AND ESTABLISHING A PERSONNEL SYSTEM FOR
SAID CITY", is hereby amended by adding the following
classification to the competitive service system of said
city:
The office of superintendent of the sewage treatment
plant and such subordinate positions in his department as
shall be necessary to properly operate and maintain the
municipal sewage treatment plant of the City of South San
Francisco, which office and subordinate positions are
hereby created and made a part of the classified or com-
petitive service system of said city.
Section 2. The superintendent of the sewage treatment
plant shall be responsible for the proper and successful
operation of said sewage treatment, and he shall also
supervise and direct all other persons employed by the
City of South San Francisco to assist in the operation and
maintenance of said sewage treatment plant.
Section 3. The person who has been superintending
said municipal sswage treatment plant for the past several

months and now is superintending said plant shall have
regular permanent~status in the classified or competitive
service as superintendent of the sewage treatment plant'
immediately as of the date upon which this ordinance becomes
effective without any preliminary examinations or working
tests. All persons holding positions subordinate to said
superintendent of the sewage treatment plant shall have
regular probationary status in the classified or competitive
service in the positions held by them as of the date upon
which this ordinance becomes effective, without'any pre-
liminary examinations or working tests. It is expressly
intended that the competitive service status of all such
persons shall not be permanent~ and all such persons shall
be on probation~i$ such positions for the usual per~od of
one year. The superintendent of the sewage treatment plant
and all subordinate personnel shall be subject in all
respects to the provisions of the aforementioned Civil
Service Ordinancej and likewise they shall be entitled to
all the rights and benefits of the competitive service.

Passed and adopted as an ordinance of the City of
South San Francisco at a regular meeting of the City
Council of the City of South San Francisco this 20th
day of July , 1953, by the following vote: -
