PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
ELECTION OF VICE CRAIg,
Motion-Getz/Second Hoyer: To elect Joy-Ann Wendler as Vice Chair of the
South San Francisco Planning Commission. Unanimously approved by voice
vote.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Motion-Getz/Second Hoyer: To approve the minutes of
the January 10, 1985 meeting as presented. AYES: Chairman Terry, Corrmissioners
Getz, Hoyer, and Martin. ABSTAINED: Vice-Chair Wendler, Corrmissioners
Agee and Boblitt.
ORAL COMMUNICATIONS
Chairman Terry welcomed the new Commissioners.
Commission members welcomed the new Planning Commissioners. The new Planning
Corrmissioners expressed appreciation for the welcome they received.
Chairman Terry presented a plaque to Commissioner C~tz for his service as
Commission Chairman during 1984.
WORKSHOP SESSION
Deputy City Manager ~furk Lewis welcomed the new Commissioners and indicated
they should call him for any assistance they required. Mr. Lewis introduced
the new Planning Director, Jean Smith.

Mrs. Smith advised the Commission of her background and stated that basically
her philosophy was an interest in redevelopment coupled with the conservation
of neighborhoods.
Mr. Lewis introduced City Staff members to the Commission. The following
City Staff members welcomed the new Commissioners and gave a brief explanation
of their role in the planning process:
City Attorney - Robert Rogers.
Deputy City Manager/City Engineer - Robert Yee.
Police Department - Sgt. Ron Petrocchi.
Building Division - Jake Wittwer.
Fire Department - Fire ~1arshal Fred Lagomarsino
Landscape - Sylvester Duplessis.
Mr. Lewis introduced the Planning Staff and members of the Planning Staff
gave a brief explanation of their current major projects.
There was a discussion of the role of the Planning Commissioner.
The new Commissioners expressed appreciation for the workshop session, stating
that it had been informative.
Chairman Terry noted that Police Chief Datzman and Design Review Board member
Louis Fornaciari were in the audience.
Items from Staff
Preliminary Plan for the U.S. Steel Plant Site Redevelopment Project (Shearwater
Project)
A Resolution of the Planning Commission selecting the boundaries of the U.S.
Steel Plant Site Redevelopment Project within the Redevelopment Survey Area
and approving a Preliminary Plan for the redevelopment of the Project area.
Mr. Christians stated that three pages with minor wording changes had been
distributed to the Commission prior to the meeting.
Commissioner Getz stated that the Attorney Generalis Office for whom he
works represents BCDC and he would refrain from acting on portions of this
project with extensive BCDC involvement, but that he would vote on this
Resolution.
Motion-Getz/Second Martin: Adopt the Resolution selecting the boundaries
of the U.S. Steel Plant Site Redevelopment Project within the Redevelopment
Survey Area and approving a Preliminary Plan for the redevelopment of the
Project area. Unanimously approved.
Items from the Commission
Chairman Terry asked about the Willow Gardens Memorandum received from Staff.
Mr. Lewis indicated that he would answer questions but that it was an internal
City management concern. Chairman Terry indicated that he would be willing

to be appointed as a Planning Cornrrdssion liaison if Item 6 in the Memorandum
of January 18, 1985 were implemented. Corrmissioner Agee indicated that she
would also be willing to participate as a resource participant. Mr. Lewis
stated that Chairman Terry and Corrmissioner Agee could initially be
liaisons with Staff. Chairman Terry expressed appreciation for the prompt
report from Staff on this item. He also stated that a neighbor of his,
Mr. Kennedy, on Crestwood Drive is having a debris problem from the Willow
Garden area and requested assistance. Thtt. Lewis indicated that he would
check into this.
Chairman Terry thanked Mr. Christians for his letter regarding Paul's Campers
but stated that a truck with racks was parked on the street.
Commissioner Boblitt expressed appreciation for the flowers received from
Vice Mayor Teglia.
~tt. Lewis requested a poll of the Commission regarding the meeting night.
It was the Corrmission consensus to keep the meetings on the second and fourth
Thursdays.
The Chairman recognized Mr. Birkelo in the audience.
