June 2, 1986 study Session of the South San Francisco Planning
Commission.
MEMBERS PRESENT:

Vice Chair Boblitt called the Study Session to order at 7:35 p.m.
The Commission agreed to continue reviewing the Revised Zoning
Ordinance, beginning with Chapter 20.74.
The Commission agreed that Section 20.74.070, Computation of
Required Spaces - Exceptions be deleted and that the following
wording would be added to Section 20.74.020 Requirements
Generally:
Every use hereafter inaugurated or altered, and every building,
facility, or structure hereafter erected or ai~e~ea enlarged;
shall have permanently maintained parking spaces in accordance
with the provisions of this Chapter.
The Commission agreed that the word "gross" be removed from
Section 20.74.060 Industrial Uses.
The Commission agreed to leave Section 20.74.110(c) Location in
the Zoning Ordinance as recommended by staff.
Commissioner Getz suggested deleting Section 20.74.130 Peripheral
Walls and the Commission concurred.
The Commission agreed to add the word "logo" to section
20.76.110(a) Individual Business Establishment Identification, as
follows: Such signs shall include only the name, address, and
logo of the business located on the premises upon which the sign
is located and, when necessary, may include the generic type of
business (e.g. restaurant, pharmacy, etc.)
The Commission agreed to the concept of window graphics as an
alternative to window signs (Section 20.76.200(k) Temporary
Announcement) and directed staff to draft language which would
allow up to 30% of window area for lettering.
The Commission agreed that the words "public-serving, non-public
serving" be deleted from Section 20.76.300 Special Sign District.
The Commission recommended to staff to re-work Section 20.76.400
General Sign Standards (C) Copy Area for simplification.
The Commission recommended to staff to re-write Section 20.78.020

The Commission agreed Section 20.84.070(c) Explosives Handling be
deleted from the Ordinance.
Staff informed the Commission that all reference to a "Design
Review Permit" and public hearings for Design Review items shall
be deleted from Chapter 20.85 and therefore deleting Section
20.85.070 Hearing and Notice.
The Commission agreed to the following wording for Section
20.85.020(b)(3): Addition to one, two, and three-family
dwellings which do not break the existing roof line of the
structure and which do not constitute a 50% increase in floor
area and which otherwise comply with Section 20.72.080.
The Commission agreed that the wording "excessively uniform" be
stricken from Section 20.85.030(B) and that the wording "avoiding
excess variety of monotonous repetition" be deleted from Section
20.85.030(3).
It was the consensus of the Commission that one member of the
Design Review Board shall include the following wording: "One
member shall be a building or engineering contractor".
Commissioner Getz suggested the following wording be added to
Section 20.97.060 Abandonment: If the non-conforming use of a
building or facility or a portion of a building or facility
ceases for a continuous period...
Adjournment
Meeting was adjourned at 10:15 pm to a study session at the City
Hall Conference Room on Wednesday, June 11, 1986 at 7:30 pm.
