RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE
OF $5,000 FROM QUALITY COUNTS SAN MATEO
COUNTY, AND $17,000 FROM THE SAN MATEO
COUNTY LEARNING HUBS EXPANSION FUND FOR
THE PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT'S
CHILDCARE PROGRAM FOR FISCAL YEAR
2020-2021.
WHEREAS, the Parks and Recreation Department's Childcare Program continues to play an
essential role in response to the covid-19 pandemic by providing essential preschool and school-age
childcare services; and
WHEREAS, the City of South San Francisco (City) received $5,000 from the 2020-2021
Quality Improvement (QI) Grant from Quality Counts San Mateo County, which is administered by the
San Mateo County Office of Education; and
WHEREAS, the QI Grant will be used to upgrade the outdoor play space at Little Steps
Preschool in an effort to meet and maintain a Tier 3 or higher rating on the San Mateo County Quality
Rating and Improvement System (QRIS) as required by the QRIS Participation Agreement from July 1,
2020 through June 30, 2023; and
WHEREAS, the City received $17,000 from the San Mateo County Learning Hubs Expansion
Fund, which is administered by the Community Equity Collaborative; and
WHEREAS, San Mateo County Learning Hubs Expansion Fund will be used to offset the cost
of opening an additional classroom at its Los Cerritos Elementary School learning hub, thereby allowing
the City to continue offering this critical service to students at Los Cerritos at no charge;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of South San
Francisco hereby accepts $5,000 from Quality Counts San Mateo County, and $17,000 from the San
Mateo County Learning Hubs Expansion Fund for the Parks and Recreation Department's Childcare
Program for Fiscal Year 2020-2021.

At a meeting of the City Council on 4/14/2021, a motion was made by Councilmember Nicolas,
seconded by Vice Mayor Nagales, that this Resolution be approved. The motion passed.
