I served as Councilman Coleman’s treasurer. * I want to be a member of the Planning Commission because I believe in the power of government to improve lives. I have been vocal in city affairs for a few months now and it's time for me to engage in the process. My biggest contribution will be my dedication to the inclusion of working class voices in the economic planning of SSF. Unfortunately the status quo has benefited too few in our society and it is time to reassert the priorities of the people who struggle so hard for so little. * I am qualified for this appointment because I have a background in economics, government, and a strong professional work ethic. I have always been passionate about my community and I am eager to engage in our community's most complicated issues: COVID-19 economic recovery, income inequality, and housing insecurity, etc. Public service is my calling, and currently my full time-job at the US EPA. I will add value on Day 1 given by professional background, community engagement, and passion. * I have not attended any planning commission meetings before. The reason for this is that the past few meetings have been canceled with no explanation given to the public. However, I have been engaged in planning related issues through my participation in city council meetings. There is little knowledge of this critical commission to the public, which I would like to address as a Planning Commissioner. I pledge to work towards increased public participation for this important democratic body. * No * No * San Diego State University, BA - International Economics 2013-2018 * U.S. Environmental Protection Agency - Environmental Protection Specialist, October 2020 - Present, Peace Corps Ethiopia - Community Health Educator, January 2019 - March 2020, San Diego Diplomacy Council - Program Associate, August 2017 - August 2018, Sushi Kuchi - Server, January 2018 - May 2018, Blue Smoke Sushi - Email If you selected more than one Board/Commission of interest, please rank your preferences here, starting with your first choice. There is no question that the economic, societal, and physical landscape of SSF has changed rapidly over the past few decades, the issue is that not all South San Franciscans are seeing an equitable share of the region’s success. If I may please be advised of what I am doing wrong when attempting to speak at meetings. Also, please enter comments below into record for tonight's item in discussion. Thank you! Respectfully, Olga Good evening Mayor and City Council, If I may please ask for Council to consider communities facing barriers and challenges, when choosing a candidate to fill these important positions, so that everyone has equal opportunities in education, housing, recreation, etc etc A candidate spoke about Orange Park and going along the thoughts above, when I was a child I remember only visiting Orange Park perhaps only once or twice because as a young child, it felt as if we were walking to the moon. SamTrans is not a possibility for parents who cannot afford fares for themselves or children for doctor appointments or schools, so this out of the question, and it's still an issue very present in Old Town. If you may keep the many barriers when making decisions of appointment candidates, as mentioned above. I'm here today to support Ms. Liliana Rivera, Mr. Eddy Holman and Mr. Luis de Paz. I first met Ms. Rivera and Mr. Holman virtually last year and was truly amazed at their passionate advocacy for social and racial issues and how this resonated with so many of us. It was an immediate connection because of their advocacy for the most vulnerable, our children and underrepresented communities. I then met them at one of the food and school supplies distribution events they started, so their passion in helping and advocacy definitely doesn’t stop at meetings. Their applications confirms their passion in seeing the need for change, their deep knowledge about issues, through their life and educational backgrounds. There’s no denial this combination is a huge asset for SSF. I equally support, not favoring one over another, Luis de Paz. I first met him when advocating for Old Town was a great help in distributing the ShapeSSF flyers. He was also a guest speaker at one of our Latinx parent meetings and learned he’s worked with youth over the years. He’s definitely a success story as an immigrant Spanish speaking, 1st generation Latino and this alone speaks volumes, especially coming from Old Town. He is an affirmation of “si se puede.” He can definitely be an asset to community’s voice. All three have brought meaning and awareness to community issues - Through a bright and promising light to social and racial inequalities that are long overdue in addressing them. Through their backgrounds and continued advocacy, I am confident they will be able to work alongside Council and peers in embracing every single individual, without excluding any one person in SSF.
