TELECONFERENCE MEETING Welcome to the Meeting of the Cultural Arts Commission. Please note that the Cultural Arts Commission may meet by teleconference, consistent with the Brown Act as amended by AB 361 (2021). Under the amended rules, the City will not provide a physical location for members of the public to participate in the teleconference meeting. The purpose of conducting the meeting as described in this notice is to provide the safest environment for staff and the public while allowing for public participation. Commissioners Boldenweck, Bond, Bowen, Cansino, DeNatale, Foley, Hobson-Coard, Maharaj, Ramos, Vice Chair Mardahay, and Chair Campagna and essential City staff will participate via Teleconference. Members of the public may submit their comments on any agenda item or public comment via email or Parks & Recreation main line. PURSUANT TO RALPH M. Election of Officers (Chair, Michael DeNatale) ▪ Chair DeNatale called for nominations for Chairperson. ▪ Commissioner Foley nominated Commissioner Mardahay and Chair DeNatale nominated Commissioner Campagna. ▪ Roll Call Vote Results | Commissioner Campagna elected as Chairperson. ▪ Commissioner DeNatale called for nominations for Vice Chairperson. ▪ Commissioner Foley nominated Commissioner Mardahay; Commissioner Mardahay nominated Commissioner DeNatale, who declined the nomination to allow other commissioners the opportunity to take on the role. ▪ Roll Call Vote Results | Commissioner Mardahay elected as Vice Chairperson. Duldulao thanked Commissioner DeNatale, and announced that a brick will be dedicated to him in the path of the plaza at Orange Park for his service as Cultural Arts Commission Chairperson for 2021. Action: Mgr. Duldulao and Specialist Santos to inform absent commissioners of election results. 2. 2022 Goals and Subcommittees (Cultural Arts Specialist, Ercie Santos) ▪ Commissioner DeNatale opened floor for commissioners to express interest in subcommittees for the year going forward. ▪ Commissioners may also state interest in joining a subcommittee at any time by informing City staff, or discussing during the subcommittee update or Items From Commission portions of the monthly meeting. VIII. SUBCOMMITTEES: 1. Strategic Vision ▪ Public Art Master Plan RFP received three submissions, review period active until the first meeting of the Review and Selection Committee on November 29. ▪ Community engagement survey taken offline, and data will be used to orient the consultant selected. ▪ New survey to be posted when community engagement process for public art plan begins. 2. Sculpture ▪ Commissioner Boldenweck requested information on CAC funding. ▪ ACM/Dir Ranals and Mgr. Duldulao confirmed that the CAC received approximately $60,000 in funding for the year to be allocated to the Caltrain Mural refresh/repair and graffiti abatement murals. There is also approximately $29,000 in the commission’s donation account, which also funds the Jack Drago Cultural Arts Commission Youth Art scholarship. ▪ Commissioner Boldenweck also asked if the January commission meeting will be virtual; meetings will be virtual through the end of the year, and City will evaluate after that point. 3. Urban Art ▪ Prometheus mural still in process and currently scheduling logistics for restoration with Precita Eyes; projected completion slated for December. ▪ Subcommittee is evaluating mural opportunities presented to them by City staff, specifically the Dubuque Crossing and Airport Union Pacific Bridge locations. ▪ Specialist Santos and Commissioner Bond are beginning work on RFQ process to find artists for prospective mural projects. ▪ Potential opportunities are available to display artwork on trash bins in downtown area. Youth Art Programs – 2022 In-Person Fundraiser Dates ▪ Commissioner Bowen provided update on Summer BBQ Fundraiser, citing two possible dates to book the Fernekes Building for the event: August 21 or 28. ▪ Subcommittee recommended August 28 date to Commission. ▪ Commissioner Boldenweck made motion to select August 28 as event date, motion seconded by Commissioner Bowen; roll call vote was in favor of date. 5. Photography Exhibit – February 11/12, 2022 ▪ Commissioner Hobson-Coard provided progress update on the in-person photography show, Momentum: Moving Forward, set to take place on February 11 and 12. ▪ Event to be juried, and selection of works to be featured in an online gallery following the in-person show. ▪ Call for entries set to be released in mid-December, with submissions/entry fees to be taken online. Limit of three entries per artist. ▪ Event will require commissioner assistance, Docent Survey forthcoming. Action: Specialist Santos to contact Scott Buschman to judge February photography exhibit. 6. Performing Arts ▪ Commissioner Hobson-Coard and her husband to do 30-minute live musical performance, with intention of tying this pilot event into the February photography show. ▪ Commissioner Maharaj noted progress made on script and plan to meet with Commissioner Cansino over the next few weeks to prep. ▪ Mgr. Duldulao and Specialist Santos to look into administration and logistics needed for event. 7. Community Engagement ▪ Commissioner Mardahay and other subcommittee members to meet in December to discuss opportunities to support the upcoming art show. ▪ Commissioner DeNatale to join subcommittee. IX. ITEMS FROM COMMISSION Announcement Commissioner Foley formally thanked Commissioner DeNatale for his service as Commission Chairperson this past year, and commended him for the great work that the Commission has done in that time. The headlining musicians were the subject of a PBS documentary titled, “Los Hermanos” which was broadcast in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. Refer to packet for details. XII.
