AN ORDINANCE ADOPTING THE UNIFORM FIRE
CODE - 1973 EDITION, INCLUDING APPENDICES
A, B, C, D~ AND E, AND THE STANDARDS~ PRIN-
CIPLES, TESTS, METHODS, PUBLICATIONS AND
SECONDARY CODES THEREIN REFERRED TO OR
ADOPTED BY REFERENCE; PROVIDING FOR AMEND~
MENT THERETO, ISSUANCE OF PERMITS AND FEES
THEREFOR; AND REPEALING 0RDINANCE 601 AND
OTHER ORDINANCES.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO DOES ORDAIN
AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION I. Adoption of Uniform Fire Code - 1973 Edition as
Herein Amended.
All of the provisions of' the Uniform Fire Code - 1973
Edition (Developed by the International Conference of Building Officials
and the Western Fire Chiefs Association, copyright 1973 - Library of
Congress Catalog Card No. 73-77250) and the standards, principles,
tests, methods, publications and secondary codes therein referred to,
or adopted by reference, particularly including but not limited to
those set forth in Section 1.216 of said code, and appendiCes A, B, C,
D and E of said code and the standards, principles, tests, methods,
publication and secondary codes therein referred to or adopted by
reference, particularly including but not limited to those set forth
in appendix D of said code, are hereby adopted and made part of this
ordinance as though fully set forth herein.
SECTION II. Amendments to the Uniform~Fire Code - 1973 Edition.
The following sections, sub-sections and parts of sections,which
read as hereinafter stated, are hereby adopted and added to the

Uniform Fire Code - 1973 Edition, which was adopted by reference in
Section I of this Ordinance.
SeCtion-l.101. This Code shall be known as the Uniform Fire Code,
may be cited'as such, and will be referred to herein as "this Code."
A Fire Department is hereby established in and for the City of
South San Francisco known as the South San Francisco Fire Department.
and referred to herein as "Fire Department."
Section 1.218. Violations and Penalties:
It shall be ~nlawful for any person, firm, or corporation to
erect, construct, enlarge, alter, repair, move, improve, remove,
convert, or demolish, equip, use, occupy or maintain any building or
structure in the City or cause the same to be done contrary to or
in violation of any of the provisions of this Ordinance.
Any person, firm or corporation violating any of the provisions
of this Ordinance shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and such
person shall be deemed guilty of a separate offense for each and
every day or portion thereof during which any violation of any of. the
provisions of this ordinance is committed, continued or permitted, and
upon conviction of any such violation, such person shall b~ punishable
by a fine of not less than Twenty-five ($25 00) dollars and not exceed-
ing Five Hundred ($500.00) dollars, or by imprisonment for not exceed-
ing six (6) months or by both such fine and imprisonment.
Section 1.309. Permit Fees.
The City Council shall by resolution establish fees for issuance
of permits required by sections of this code, except where the code
provisions specifies the permit fee; fees for reproduction of Fire
Department Report, fees for plan checking inspection and testing of
automatic fire extinguishing systems, sprinkler systems, and other
systems including but not limited to range hood and duct systems

and standpipe systems (including all wet, dry or combination systems.)
Section 13.307 (f) - A permit shall be obtained for the installa-
tion, servicing~ repairing, alteration, maintenance, or sale of all
fire alarm systems.
Section 13.301 (d) - Not withstanding the provisions of 'this code
or the provisions of any other ordinance or code of the City of
South San Francisco, approved automatic sprinkler systems shall be

(2) Buildings and structures which are forty feet or
more in height (as defined in the Uniform Building
Code);or
(3) Buildings or structures which are three stories
(as defined in the Uniform Building Code) or
more, irrespective of height, as set forth in
(2) above.
SECTION III. Copies of the Code.
Three copies of the Code, certified to be true copies, shall
be filed in the office of the City Clerk in the form and at the ~imes
prescribed by law and kept there for public inspection during the time
this ordinance is in effect, except that after adoption of this
ordinance, one of said copies may be kept in the office of the Chief
Enforcement Officer instead of the City Clerk's office, T~e City
Clerk shall maintain a reasonable supply of copies available for
purchase by the public as required by law.

SECTION IV. No Grant of Legislative Authority.
The provisions of this ordinance and Uniform Fire Code - 1973
adopted by reference, are not intended to and do not grant any
legislative authority to the Chief Enforcement Officer.
SECTION V. Severability.
If any section, subsection, sentence, clause, phrase or p6~tion
of this ordinance, or code thereby adopted, is for any reason held
to be invalid or unconstitutional by the decision of any court or
courts of jurisdiction, such decision shall not affect the validity
of the remaining portions of this ordinance or said code. The City
Council of this city hereby declares that it would have adopted this
ordinance and said code and each section, subsection, clause, phrase
or portion thereof, irrespective of the fact that any one or more
sections, subsections, clauses, phrases or portions may be declared
invalid or unconstitutional.
SECTION VI. Repeal of Prior Ordinances
The following ordinances are hereby repealed, except that this
repeal shall not affect or prevent the prosecution or punishment of
any person for any act done or committed in violation of any ordinance
hereby repealed prior to the effective date of this ordinance adopting
the Uniform Fire Code , 1973 Edition.

Smoking in Auditoriums, Theatres, Rooms in which Motion
Pictures are Exhibited, Public Waiting Rooms and the
Enclosed Portion of Street Railway Cars; Also Prohibit-
ing spitting upon Floors of Public Halls, Theatres,Rooms
in Which Motion Pictures are Exhibited, Public Waiting
Rooms and Upon the Floor or Steps of Street Railway Cars"
passed March 17th, 1913.

Fire-Alarm Signals" passed April 4, 1921.
Ordinance No. 159, entitled "An Ordinance of the City
Council of the city of South San Francisco Prohibiting

the same,' which Ordinance was passed and adopted on
the 12th day of June, 1939" passed August 15, 1955.

Ordinance No. 398 entitled "An Ordinance of the City

SECTION VII. PUBLICATION AND EFFECTIVE DATE:
This Ordinance shall be published once in the "Enterprise-
Journal", a newspaper of general circulation in the City of South
San Francisco, as required by law, and shall become effective thirty
(30) days from and after its adoption.
