ATTENDANCE Library Trustees present:Diane Huddleston, Mary Giusti,Liru Chin, Hector Camacho, and Claire Ramsey.Library staff present: Valerie Sommer, Library Director; Lara Mayelian, Library Program Manager; andElia Moreno, Administrative Assistant II. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Motion to approve the minutes from the October 26, 2021meeting was made, seconded and approved as presented. PUBLIC COMMENTS DIRECTOR’S REPORT The Board reviewed the Director’s Report. COMMUNICATIONS: a)Circulation, Reference Questions&LiteracyServicesStatistics (Attachment #1) b)Library Articles, Issues & Programs (Attachment #2) c)BoardAttendance Chart (Attachment #3) OLD BUSINESS New Main Library and Parks & Recreation Community Center Project Update th The ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Police Station will be held on Tuesday, December 7at 10:00 AM. Library staff has been assisting in helping move computers and other IT equipment into the new building. Library staff is continuing to work on FF&E along with the Parks & Recreation Department. Details on the donor wall and signage are beginning to be finalized. NEW BUSINESS Introduction of Library Program Manager Lara Mayelian The Library Board of Trustees welcomes new LibraryProgram Manager, Lara Mayelian. Lara has been a professional librarian for 13 years. She worked at the King County Library system for 10 years as a teen services librarian at the youth service center, which serves the juvenile detention center for the county. Concurrently, she worked as an adult services librarian for the Burien Library, one of the largest branches in the system. Most recently, Lara was the branch manager for a Sonoma County Library –North West Library in Santa Rosa. In March 2021, Lara was accepted in the California Library Association leadership challenge. Along with other librarians, Lara helped create an initiative called “Ready Access.” It is are-entryinitiative that South San Francisco Public Library Board of TrusteesPage 2 MeetingMinutes – November 28, 2021 supports formerly incarceratedpeople with educational and vocational supports. Lara is thrilled to be back in the Bay Area and be a part of the South San Francisco Public Library team. Discussion and Motion to Approve the 2022 Holiday Schedule The Library Board of Trustees reviewed the draft 2022 Holiday Schedule. Motion to approve the 2022 Holiday Schedule as presented was made, seconded and approved. Nominations for 2022 Slate of Officers Nominations of officers were made as follows: Diane Huddleston as President; Mary Giusti as Vice President; Liru Chin as Secretary. The official election of officers is scheduled to take place during the January 25, 2022 meeting. Discussion on renaming the Community Learning Center in honor of former California State Assembly member, Mayor and City Council Member Gene Mullin The Library Board of Trustees reviewed and discussedthe renaming of the Community Learning Center in honor of former California State Assembly member, Mayor and City Council member Gene Mullin.The South San Francisco Unified School District approved the resolution in favor th of renaming the Community Learning Centeron Thursday, November 18.The Library Board recommendsthe City Council of South San Francisco approve a resolution in favor of the renaming of the Community Learning Center be in honor of Gene Mullin. AGENDA BUILDING NewCommunity Civic Center Campus Update;Trivia Challenge Recap; 2022 Election of Officers;Local Schools Connections and Outreach. ANNOUNCEMENTS The meeting of the Library Board of Trustees scheduled for Tuesday, December 28 th at 6:00PM has been cancelled. Upcoming holidays: Christmas –Staff will be available half day on Thursday, December 23 rd; there will be no Library services on Friday, December 24 th and Saturday, December 25 th. New Year’s – Staff will be available half day on Thursday, December 30 th; there will be no Library services on Friday, December 31 st and Saturday, January 1 st. Martin Luther King Jr. Day –Library facilities will be closed Sunday, January 16, 2022 and Monday, January 17, 2022 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. GOOD AND WELFARE The Library Board of Trustees would like to thank Shawnte Santos for her service at SSFPL. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 6:25 P.M.
