HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 74-2006 RESOLUTION NO. 74-2006 CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO EXPRESSING OPPOSITION TO PROPOSITION 90 IN THE NOVEMBER 7, 2006 GENERAL ELECTION WHEREAS, Proposition 90, "Government Acquisition, Regulation of Private Property. Initiative Constitutional Alnendment," has been certified for inclusion on the Novelnber 7, 2006 General Election ballot; and WHEREAS, if approved, Proposition 90 would mnend the California Constitution to limit govermnent authority to take ownership of private property, and require govermnent to pay property owners for substantial econolnic losses resulting from certain new laws and regulations, including zoning regulations; and WHEREAS, the power of eminent dOlnain is important to effective and efficient local government, and to redeveloplnent agencies in particular; and WHEREAS, the Legislative Analyst's Office has concluded that approval of Proposition 90 would likely result in local governments incurring additional costs as a result of exercising their power of elninent dOlnain; and WHEREAS, in response to fears regarding the taking of private party, and in particular, private residences, the City already has established stringent policies to prevent abuse and ensure appropriate use of eminent domain power. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco that the City Council hereby expresses its opposition to State Proposition 90. * * * * * I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was regularly introduced and adopted by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco at a regular Ineeting held on the 13th day of Septelnber 2006 by the following vote: AYES: Councilmembers Mark N.
