ATTENDANCE Library Trustees present:Diane Huddleston, Mary Giusti,Liru Chin,Hector Camacho and Claire Ramsey.Library Staff present: Valerie Sommer, Library Director;Adam Elsholz, Assistant Library Director;Karla Bourdon, Literacy Services Program Manager;andElia Moreno, Administrative Assistant II. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Motion to approve the minutesas presentedfromtheJuly26,2022,meeting was madebyVice President, Mary Giusti, andsecondedbyLiru Chin,Secretary.All members in attendance were in favor. PUBLIC COMMENTS COMMUNICATIONS: a)Circulation, Reference Questions&LiteracyServicesStatistics (Attachment #1) b)Library Articles, Issues & Programs (Attachment #2) c)BoardAttendance Chart (Attachment #3) OLD BUSINESS New Main Library and Parks & Recreation Community Center Project Update Members of Library staff, Library Board and the Library Foundation had the opportunity to tour the New Main Library and Parks & Recreation Community Center Project. Assistant Library Director, Adam Elsholz, shared photographs from the tours of all three levels of the building. Board members were able to see the progress and recent updates of the project. Examples of the workstation chairs were made available for staff to test and vote on their favorite. NEW BUSINESS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program Update Karla Bourdon, Literacy Services Manager The Literacy Services VITA program was fortunate to be able to receive grant support from the United Way Bay Area at $8,000 and the Silicon Valley Community Foundation at $35,000. With South San Francisco Public Library Board of TrusteesPage 2MeetingMinutes August 23, 2022 the support, Project Read, was able to exceed the goal of filing 350 returns by almost 30 and were able to file over $360,000 of refundsto the community.A total of 6 volunteers supported the preparation of tax returns for the communityputting in a total of 335 hours for 20 program days. Aside from VITA services, Library staff had the opportunity to collaborate in providing literacy materials, kits,and trainings for nearly 80 households. Some of these programs and services included Kiddynomics, Financial Literacy Kits, and a training at the CLC with a partnership with CPUC for a financial literacy workshop series.The Library Board of Trustees would like to thank all volunteers and library staff involved in helping support VITA and Financial Literacyservices for the community. ANNOUNCEMENTS Holiday Schedule: All Library facilities, including both Main and Grand Avenue Libraries, and th the Gene Mullin Community Center will be closed on Sunday, September 4and Monday, th September 5in observance of Labor Day. The South San Francisco Public Library Book Club meets virtually via Zoom on the third Tuesday of each month at 6:00 PM. The Septemberbook club selection is the Harlem ShufflebyColson Whitehead.
