There have been previous actions by the Commission to offer some free parking downtown during the holidays, typically tied to special events. Considerations for this year specifically include the ongoing Shelter-In-Place orders which are aimed to prevent large gatherings and parking downtown is needed to maintain availability of spaces for the Outdoor Dining program, restaurant pick-up, and take-out needs for restaurants to maintain regular turn over. Staff is recommending for this year to offer free parking in the Miller Avenue garage for “Small Business Weekends” to support local businesses the weekend of Saturday, December 19, 2020 and Saturday, December 26, 2020. This would be limited to only the 100 publicly accessible parking spaces on the first floor and not any of the “permit-only” spaces on the upper levels. Commissioners stated that there is a great need for the businesses to attract customers and this would help. 2.Resolution approving a waiver of parking fees in the Miller Avenue Garage in support of small businesses during the holidays. -Motion –Chairperson Malfatti / Second –Vice Chair Abarca – to approve the resolution. Approved by voice vote (3-0-0). ITEMS FROM THE COMMISSION Commissioner Monzon noted concerns about the planter boxes obstructing the sidewalk in front of the business at Maple and Grand Ave, not maintaining the required 5 feet of pedestrian space on the sidewalk, and asked staff to review the issue further with the business. Chairperson Malfatti adjourned the meeting at 5:26 p.m. Respectfully submitted. _____________________________ _____________________________ Christopher Espiritu Jolene Malfatti Parking Place Commission Secretary Parking Place Commission Chairperson DocuSign Envelope ID: EFB5D289-FE68-476C-8DB4-6E05F5DEA026
