HomeMy WebLinkAbout08-09-22 Traffic Safety Commission Final MinutesMEETING MINUTES August 9, 2022 CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO REGULAR MEETING TRAFFIC SAFETY COMMISSION CALL TO ORDER: ROLL CALL: Present: Absent: City Staff: The meeting was called to order at 5:33 p.m. by Chairperson Abarca Dana Abarca, Chairperson Jolene Malfatti, Vice Chairperson Hermes Monzon, Commissioner Justin Yuen, Commissioner David Carbone, Commissioner None Christopher Espiritu, Secretary of the Traffic Safety Commission Adena Friedman, Principal Planner AGENDA REVIEW: None PUBLIC COMMENT: None CONSENT CALENDAR: 1.Approval of the Regular Meeting Minutes of June 14, 2022 Motion – Commissioner Yuen / Second – Commissioner Carbone – to approve the minutes as submitted. Approved by voice vote (5-0-0). ADMINISTRATIVE ITEMS: 2.TAC 2206 and 2207 Meetings Report (INFORMATIONAL) -Secretary Espiritu provided a report on the Traffic Advisory Committee (TAC) meetings from June and July and discussed certain traffic safety and other issues raised by members of the community. o Commissioner Carbone inquired about TAC Item 2206-A and if there is more to the response about the request to move 3-hour parking sign at 1200 Mission Rd for better visibility. Staff noted that the signage DocuSign Envelope ID: 4EFA6AB0-5B9E-4E89-88B0-C215D205E37A currently in place was determined to be in the appropriate location and was visible from multiple directions and distance. o Commissioner Monzon inquired about TAC Item 2206-2 and the request for no parking between 9am and 5pm on Tamarack Ln to address narrowness of roadway. No parking restrictions would only be for construction and would not be in effect after construction is complete. o Commissioner Monzon inquired about TAC Item 2206-2 and the request to reduce no parking restrictions along 7th Ln; the intent needs clarity. Staff noted that Fire Department access needs to be maintained along the lanes and removing parking restrictions and adding parking limit emergency response to properties along the lanes. Staff to take this issue under advisement. o Commissioner Carbone inquired about Item 2207-B and requested that additional traffic safety information collected by City Staff, on how other cities enact policies for ADA curb space, to be sent to the Commission. Staff will distribute information to the Commission as available. o Commissioner Monzon inquired about Item 2207-4 and the request for enforcement of large trucks on Baden. This continues to be an enforcement issue that is being handled by Police Department and other City Staff, especially at peak times. Staff to look into appropriate signage and see if there are signage that can be installed. ITEMS FROM THE COMMISSION: -Commissioner Monzon noted that the traffic signal timing at SB Airport Boulevard (Lux through Baden) takes too long to transition especially at 6:30am. Staff is recommending that a TAC request should be submitted by the Commissioner. -Commissioner Monzon noted that in a future meeting, Staff provide an overview of the difference between SeeClickFix and EngageSSF. And how to navigate both sites. -Commissioner Carbone requested information for a future meeting regarding the Grand/Airport Streetscape Project. -Commissioner Carbone requested information for a future meeting regarding the recent projects at San Mateo Avenue and Airport Boulevard.
