1. ADMINISTRATIVE BUSINESS
1) Project Update – 124 Airport Boulevard / 100 Produce Avenue
An update of the project at PS Business Parks (124 Airport/100 Produce) to construct 480 residential units with parking,
including new streetscape and landscaping, as well as provisions for bicycle and pedestrian access. Project is proposing to
implement TDM measures to promote and sustain non-vehicle travel such as bike repair hubs on site, carpool, transit
resources, and unbundled parking. Project is currently scheduled for Planning Commission hearing in September and City
Council review and approval in October.
Project Applicants Zach Anderson and Scott Youdall presented the project update to BPAC. Key consideration for
transportation improvements proposed by the project include:
1) Intersection improvements which would remove the existing slip lanes to facilitate safer crossings across
Airport Blvd and San Mateo Ave.
2) Improvements to the existing pedestrian tunnel near the project frontage by installing lighting and “re-skinning”
the tunnel walls to provide a more pleasant experience for pedestrians.
a. Limitation on possible physical and structural changes to the tunnel due to Caltrain/PCJPB ownership
of the tunnel and they have communicated their stance that no modifications would be allowed.
COMMITTEE COMMENTS
BPAC provided feedback and posed questions regarding:
- Desire to see existing installations of tunnel lighting,
- Concern about graffiti and vandalism and ensure lights are tamper-proof
- Concern about width of tunnel and feasibility of bikes and peds simultaneously using the tunnel
- Clarification about access to the tunnel from the project sites
- What happens to the other side of the tunnel (40 Airport Blvd Project)
- Need to manage ped and bike traffic during construction of the project
- Explore possible bike lanes on San Mateo Ave and connections to South Airport Blvd.
ACTION: None taken, none required
