Regular meetings are held on the first Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. If this is your first time, the following is a general outline of our procedures. In accordance with California Government Code Section 54957.5, any writing or document that is a public record, relates to an open session agenda item, and is distributed less than 72 hours prior to a regular meeting will be made available for public inspection at the City Manager's Office in City Hall. If, however, the document or writing is not distributed until the regular meeting to which it relates, then the document or writing will be made available to the public at the location of the meeting, as listed on this agenda. California law prevents the Commission from taking action on any item not on the Agenda (except in emergency circumstances). Your question or problem may be referred to staff for investigation and/or action where appropriate or the matter may be placed on a future Agenda for more comprehensive action or report. City of South San Francisco Printed on 2/1/2023Page 1 of 1 powered by Legistar™5 City of South San Francisco Youth Commission Meeting Minutes: Monday, January 9, 2022 Zoom Teleconference 6:30 pm Committee Members: Present: Ethan Mizzi, Melissa Hua, Ingrid Jimenez, Aaron Adriano, Daniella Aceves, Sophia Cyris, Jasmine Ho, Daniella Leong, Claudia Miller, Jiancarlo Ray, Julia Tsuei, Megan Yoshida Absent: Nika Mariano, Nataly Quinteros, Sarah Vides Staff Members: Present: Tamiko Huey, Management Fellow Maryjo Nuñez, Management Fellow Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 6:33pm. Agenda Review No changes to the agenda. Approval of Minutes The Minutes of the November 7, 2022, meeting was approved. Commissioner Adriano motioned, seconded by Commissioner Leong. Public Comment There was no public comment. Presentation from the South San Francisco (SSF) Education Foundation from Kristy Camacho, Vice President; Lauren Kitchen, Treasurer; Kayla Powers, Secretary VI. The Youth Commission heard the presentation from the SSF Education Foundation and continued their discussion from the previous presentation given on June 6, 2022. Discussion of Mayor’s Youth Commission Initiative The Youth Commissioners researched Boards and Commissions they were interested in and reported to staff which they would like to attend and learn more about. They are assigned as follows: 6 Assigned Commission Commissioner Planning Commission Chairperson Mizzi Parks and Recreation Commission Vice Chair Hua Equity and Public Safety Commission Secretary Jimenez Planning Commission Aaron Adriano Housing Authority Sophia Cyris Cultural Art Commission Jasmin Ho Equity and Public Safety Commission Jian Carlo Ray Parks and Recreation Commission Julia Tsuei Library Board Megan Yoshida Parking Place Commission Claudia Miller Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) Daniela Acevas Library Board Danielle Leong Commissioners Mariano, Quinteros, and Vides were absent and therefore unable to assign themselves to a commission. Discussion of Youth in Government Day Chair Mizzi and Commissioner Adriano shared their feedback on Youth in Government Day from their participation in 2019. They mentioned that they would like more structure, vet the mentors more, and have a memento to give. Vice Chair Hua states that she would like to see “youth in government, like literally youth IN government” where the youth can play a current role and not just in the future. Commissioner Aceves shared that she would like to see this open to not just students in SSF but residents of SSF who go to school elsewhere. Adjournment The meeting was adjourned at 7:49pm. 7
