Debrief on Boards and Commissions Chair Mizzi watched the Planning Commission meeting and it was about the approval of the city’s housing element and it was recommended that the city approve it. They have a vacancy; and housing element was approved the next day. City Clerk will announce who fills the vacancy once finalized. Commissioner Adriano asked what it was like to attend the meeting. Chair Mizzi shared that it was a long meeting: staff presentations, questions from commissioners; public comments… It was not fundamentally different from what the Youth Commission does. Commissioner Ho watched cultural arts. They created a cultural arts master plan, and they wanted the art to reflect the diversity of culture and engage youth and seniors. They also wanted to create “Lindenville 2.” Chair Mizzi—they are still working on their master plan Vice Chair Hua—the commission that she was supposed to attend was not meeting… It was nowhere to be found. Chair Mizzi wants to have the Youth Commission recommend that the City make accessing links more accessible. Commissioner Cyris, on January 9th, watched the Housing Authority. She said that they revisited old bills and talked about renewing them, talked about financial audits and had a guest speaker. She thinks that each commission has a different attitude about their work based on what they're doing and the members, but it was nice seeing how invested people were and how they contributed. She thinks that if everyone has a more direct understanding of what they want to do with their commission a lot more can be accomplished. Discussions for Youth in Government Day Commissioner Leong shared that the teachers already mentioned Youth in Government Day will be happening this year but didn’t explain much. Commissioner Adriano is very happy to see the return of Youth in Government Day. They would like a tour of the new civic center. Vice Chair Hua thinks that there are more social aspects this time especially for networking. Chair Mizzi would like to see Congressman Mullin to speak or Senator Becker. Commissioner Jimenez would like to see a Q&A segment during the Youth Commission. Youth in Government Day Ad Hoc Committee Youth in Government Day Ad Hoc Committee will be made up of Commissioners: Mizzi, Hua, Mariano, Jimenez, Adriano, and Cyris.
