Please note that due to the COVID-19 outbreak, theLibrary Board of Trustees Meetingwill be
conductedby teleconference only pursuant to the provisions of the Governor’s ExecutiveOrder’s N-25-
20 andN-29-20issued on March 17, 2020 allowing for deviation of teleconference rules required by the
Brown Act andpursuant to the order of the Health Officer of San Mateo County dated March 31, 2020.
You are invited to offer your suggestions. In order that you may know our method of conducting
Library business, wewillproceed as follows:
The regular meetings of the Library Board of Trustees are held on the fourth Tuesday of each month at
6:00 P.M.

CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order at 6:00P.M. via Teleconference meeting (Zoom).
ATTENDANCE
Library Trustees present:Diane Huddleston, Mary Giusti,Liru Chin, Hector Camacho, and
Claire Ramsey.Library staff present: Valerie Sommer, Library Director; Adam Elsholz,
Assistant Library Director;andElia Moreno, Administrative AssistantII.Guests: John Baker.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Motion to approve the minutes fromtheJune 22, 2021meeting was made, seconded and
approved as presented.
PUBLIC COMMENTS
John Baker, South San Francisco Unified School District Board Member, appreciated Library
Director, ValerieSommer’s, attendance at their Board meeting regarding renaming the
Community Learning Center in honor of Eugene Mullin. The School Board is currently
reviewing guidelines for the renaming.

The Board reviewed the Director’s Report.

OLD BUSINESS
New Main Library and Parks & Recreation Community Center Project Update
Construction work has begun. Supports have been installed as part ofthe foundation of the
building. Concrete is set to be poured in soon. The BART tunnel needs to be continuously
monitored which may require special equipment. Summer 2023 is tentatively scheduled for the
completion.
Library Reopening Update

The City has set a date of August 2for staff returning to work on site. Full restoration of
nd
regular, pre-pandemicservice hoursand computer access is plannedfor August 2, along with
the reopening of all City buildings.Face masks will still be required to enter all City facilities,
including Main and Grand Libraries and the Community Learning Center.SSFPL will be the

first Library in the Peninsula to reopen at regular hours. Boards and Commissions will continue

to meet virtually through January 1.
NEW BUSINESS
Discussion and Motion to Modify the 2021 Holiday Schedule –as needed
The Library Board of Trustees discussed the possible modifications to the 2021 Holiday

Schedule. Sunday, September 5and Monday, September 6were originally observed for the
Labor Day holiday. Due to the 30-Day Vote Center at the Main Library on Sunday, September
th
5, the Library Board discussed the possibility of opening Library service hours, depending on
th
staff availability. The Library will remain closed on Labor Day, September 6
; however the Vote
Center will be open. Motion to modify the 2021 Holiday Schedule was made, seconded and
approved.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Free Youth Ecopoets' Workshop with Meera Dasgupta, 2020 United Nations Global Goals
Ambassador & 2020 Youth Poet Laureate of the United States in partnership with South San
Francisco Public Library, San Mateo County Poet Laureate AileenCassinetto, San Mateo
County Office of Arts & Culture, Urban Word NYC and the Academy of American Poets.
