Please note that due to the COVID-19 outbreak, theLibrary Board of Trustees Meetingwill be
conductedby teleconference only pursuant to the provisions of the Governor’s ExecutiveOrder’s N-25-
20 andN-29-20issued on March 17, 2020 allowing for deviation of teleconference rules required by the
Brown Act andpursuant to the order of the Health Officer of San Mateo County dated March 31, 2020.
You are invited to offer your suggestions. In order that you may know our method of conducting
Library business, wewillproceed as follows:
The regular meetings of the Library Board of Trustees are held on the fourth Tuesday of each month at
6:00 P.M.

CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order at 6:00P.M. via Teleconference meeting (Zoom).
ATTENDANCE
Library Trustees present:Diane Huddleston, Mary Giusti,Liru Chin, Hector Camacho, and
Claire Ramsey.Library staff present: Valerie Sommer, Library Director; Adam Elsholz,
Assistant Library Director;Brittany Austin, Adult Services Program Manager;andElia Moreno,
Administrative AssistantII.Guests: Kumkum Gupta, Amy Ferguson, Tamiko Huey, and MaryJo
Nuñez.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Motion to approve the minutes fromtheJuly 27, 2021meeting was made, seconded and
approved as presented.
PUBLIC COMMENTS
Kumkum Gupta would like to give kudos to Library Director, Valerie Sommer, and all Library
staff for doing a wonderful job in reinventing and adapting to all the changes that came with the
COVID-19 pandemic, in order tosuit changing community needs.She is also very happy Library
staff is so involved in COVID-19 outreach within the community, giving away facemasks,
sharing useful information and more.

OLD BUSINESS
New Main Library and Parks & Recreation Community Center Project Update
Progress has been made to the underground work requiredfor the new Community Centerwhich
hopefully means advancements to the project will soonbe more visibleas workers begin to build
up.There is now a new resolution toBART monitoring atamorereasonable cost. Staff
continues tomeet andprovide ideas on how donors will be recognized in the building.

Library Reopening Update
Due to the COVID-19 Delta Variant, face masks are now required for allindoors, including
employees and patrons. In-person programs will still not be scheduled at the Libraryuntil further
notice. Some exceptions include in-person voting and Citizen’s Academy;Citizen’s Academy
will require a proof of vaccination in order to attend in-person. South San Francisco Public
Libraries are the only libraries in the Peninsula Library System to return to full operating hours.
NEW BUSINESS
Adult Services Update –Brittany Austin, Library Program Manager
Library Program Manager, Brittany Austin, presented an adult services update to the Library
Board of Trustees. Brittany shared very useful statistics and information from circulation,
programs and several of the40+ eResources available.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
All Library facilities, including the Main and Grand Avenue Libraries and the Community

The South San Francisco Public Library Book Club meets virtually via Zoom on the third
Tuesday of each month at 6:00 PM. The September book clubselection is Hamnetby Maggie

The South San Francisco City Hall 101celebration will be held on Saturday, September 25on
Grand Avenue in front ofCity Hall and the Grand Avenue Library.
South San Francisco Citizen’s Academy is returning Fall 2021! The first session will be held on

Monday, September 13. The Library, along with the IT and Finance Departments, will be

hosting on Monday, October 4.

The Project Read Trivia Challenge will be held on Friday, November 19at the South San
Francisco Conference Center.
