You are invited to offer your suggestions. In order that you may know our method of conducting Library
business, we proceed as follows:
The regular meetings of the Library Board of Trustees are held on the fourth Tuesday of each month at
6:00 PMin the Main Library, Auditorium, 840 West Orange Avenue
,South San Francisco, California.
Public Comment: For those wishing to address the Board of Trustees on any Agenda or non-Agendized item,
please complete a Speaker Card available from the Main Library and submit it to the Library's
Administrative Assistant. Please be sure to indicate the Agenda Item # you wish to address or the topic of
your public comment. California law prevents the Board of Trustees from taking action on any item noton
the Agenda (except in emergency circumstances). Your question or problem may be referred to staff for
investigation or action (or both) where appropriate or the matter may be placed on a future Agenda for more
comprehensive action or a report. When your name is called, please state your name and address (optional)
for the Minutes. COMMENTS ARE LIMITED TO THREE (3) MINUTES PER SPEAKER. Thank you for
your cooperation.
The Library Board President will read successively the items of business appearing on the Agenda. As she
completes reading an item, it will be ready for Board discussion or action.

a)Movies at Main will be having two movie viewings in honor of National Black History Month.

Join us on Thursday, February 9for a screening of TheBlack Panthers: Vanguard of the

Revolution and on February 23for Malcolm X, both beginning at 5:00 PM.
b)During the whole month of February, SSFPL will be hosting an extravaganza of workshops and
comic- related programs forComic Arts Fest 2017. Grand Avenue Library will be hosting the

first event on Saturday, February 4 beginning at 11:00 AM for Creativity 101, an Artist
Workshop with Aubrey Vora.
c)Celebrate Comic Arts Fest by coming to the Library as your favorite character! Cosplay Day

will be all day on Saturday, February 18 beginning at 11:00 AM.
d)Join us for a storytelling session unlike any other with music, movement and mythical tales! On

Saturday February 25, in celebration of National Black History Month, we will be having a
special African and African American storytelling beginning at 3:30 PM.

CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order at 5:59P.M. in the Main Library.
ATTENDANCE
Library Trustees present: Pat FitzPatrick, Diane Huddleston, Cisca HansenandRobert Turnberg.
Library staff present: Valerie Sommer,Library Director; Adam Elsholz, Assistant Library
Director andAnita Palafox, Administrative AssistantII.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
A motion to approve the minutes of the regular October 25, 2016meeting was made and
seconded. A vote was taken and the minutes were approved.
PUBLIC COMMENTS
No public comments.
DIRECTOR’S REPORT
The Boardreviewed the Director’s Report. Afew typos and correctionswere noted and will be
corrected. Event programming spreadsheet will continue to be used, formatting looks good.

OLD BUSINESS
Library Openings and Recruitments
A staff photo bookis in the works, it willbedistributedat the next Board meeting. We have
severalnew hourly staff in the positions of Librarian, Library Assistant, Library Clerk or Library
Page.Elia Moreno was offered the position ofAdministrative Assistant Iand has accepted.
New Main Library / Community Center Planning Update
A meeting has beententativelyscheduled for January 11, 2017 to updateCity Councilon
Measure W planning.Kitchell Corporation, a construction management firm, hasbeen hired to
provide Measure W Project Management services.

NEW BUSINESS
2017 Slate of Officers
Nominations of officers were made as follows:Diane Huddleston as President; Cisca Hansenas
Vice President; Valerie Lambertsonas Secretary.The official election of officers will take place
during the January 2017 meeting.
Discussion and Motion to Approve the (revised) 2017 Holiday Schedule
A motion to approve the revised2017 Holiday Schedule was made, seconded, and approved.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
Marta Bookbinder’s retirement celebration will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at the
Community Learning Center.
The Main Library Open Housewill be onSaturday, December17from 11:00 am –3:00 pm.
