business, we proceed as follows:
The regular meetings of the Library Board of Trustees are held on the fourth Tuesday of each month at
6:00 PMin the Main Library, Auditorium, 840 West Orange Avenue
,South San Francisco, California.
Public Comment: For those wishing to address the Board of Trustees on any Agenda or non-Agendized item,
please complete a Speaker Card available from the Main Library and submit it to the Library's
Administrative Assistant. Please be sure to indicate the Agenda Item # you wish to address or the topic of
your public comment. California law prevents the Board of Trustees from taking action on any item noton
the Agenda (except in emergency circumstances). Your question or problem may be referred to staff for
investigation or action (or both) where appropriate or the matter may be placed on a future Agenda for more
comprehensive action or a report. When your name is called, please state your name and address (optional)
for the Minutes. COMMENTS ARE LIMITED TO THREE (3) MINUTES PER SPEAKER. Thank you for
your cooperation.
The Library Board President will read successively the items of business appearing on the Agenda. As she
completes reading an item, it will be ready for Board discussion or action.

CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order at 6:00P.M. in the Main Library
ATTENDANCE

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
A motion to approve the amended minutes of the regular April 25, 2017 meeting was made and
secondedand approved.
PUBLIC COMMENTS
Kumkum Gupta is very impressed with all programs that will be offered at the Library this
summer. She suggested having a course on using the free GALE Learning courses that the
Library offers.

Library Openings andRecruitments
Shawnte Santos is Acting Patron Services Manager for 6 months. Staff is currently working with
HR on two pendingLibrarian recruitments. Positions are currently being filled by our multi-
talented hourly staff.

New Main Library / CommunityCenter Planning Update
The RFP/RFQ for a “Master Architect” will go live in early June for our Community Civic
Campus Project, including new facilities for Library/Recreation, Police and Fire.
NEW BUSINESS
Summer Learning Programs 2017
Martin(Marty)Pinol,Librarian II presented flyers and brochures of summer programs. Outreach
strategies have changed this year,with staff visiting schools during pick up times and school
events, rather than in large assemblies. Sign-ups as of now havealready reached half of last
year’s.Families are able tosign up untiltheend of summer. Marty hasbeen consulting with the
Library’s Teen Advisory Board for suggestions to recruit more members and Reader Leader
volunteers.
2017 Library Summer Program for Adults “Summer of Love”

Ashley Nunes, Librarian I presentedsummer activitiesthat willbeprovided to celebrate the 50
anniversary of “Summer of Love”. There will be author talks, museum visits, a film festand two
arts &crafts activities a month. Off-site programs will also be offered to attract non-Library
users.
Fiscal Year 2017-2018 BudgetRequests
The Board reviewed the FY 2017-2018 Library budget requests. The City Council
Subcommittee will reviewbudget requestswhich will bepresentedat the May 31 CityCouncil
Special Meeting.
