business, we proceed as follows:
The regular meetings of the Library Board of Trustees are held on the fourth Tuesday of each month at
6:00 PMin the Main Library, Auditorium, 840 West Orange Avenue
,South San Francisco, California.
Public Comment: For those wishing to address the Board of Trustees on any Agenda or non-Agendizeditem,
please complete a Speaker Card available from the Main Library and submit it to the Library's
Administrative Assistant. Please be sure to indicate the Agenda Item # you wish to address or the topic of
your public comment. California law prevents theBoard of Trustees from taking action on any item noton
the Agenda (except in emergency circumstances). Your question or problem may be referred to staff for
investigation or action (or both) where appropriate or the matter may be placed on a future Agenda for more
comprehensive action or a report. When your name is called, please state your name and address (optional)
for the Minutes. COMMENTS ARE LIMITED TO THREE (3) MINUTES PER SPEAKER. Thank you for
your cooperation.
The Library Board President will read successively the items of business appearing on the Agenda. As she
completes reading an item, it will be ready for Board discussion or action.

CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order at 6:00P.M. in the Main Library

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
A motion to approve the minutes of the regular June 27, 2017 meeting was made and seconded.

24,Carole Groom of the Board of SupervisorsandtheWomen's Community Leadership Network

will be hosting an eventin honor of the 97anniversary of the ratification of the 19amendment
granting women the right to vote. The event will beginat the Dragon Theatre in Redwood City with a
reception and presentation by the Office of Diversity and Equity at 6:00 PM and will follow with a
performance of Airswimming.

OLD BUSINESS
Library Openings and Recruitments
The posting of the vacant librarian positions are expectedwithin the next few days. There aretwo
vacant librarian positions–one eachfor theYouth ServicesandReferencedivisions.
New Main Library / Community Center Planning Update
There were atotal of nine RFP/ RFQsubmittals for a “Master Architect.” All submittals have met
minimum requirements and will go into further reviewin order to narrow down the list of candidates.

Candidates will need to have experience withvarious building designs including:libraries, community
centers, fire departments, police and parking structures. Submittals includevery well-known and
creative firms.
NEW BUSINESS
Tech Demo –Adam Elsholz, Assistant Library Director
Assistant Library Director, Adam Elsholz, introduced Little Bitsto the Board members. Little Bitsare
used during some of the various MakerSpace workshopsand help teach children electronicsconcepts.
These workshops involve instructions andinteractive activities that allow our younger patronsto
experiment with the different “bits.”
Discussion and Motion to Approve Change of Time of the August 22, 2017 Meeting
A motion to approve the change of timefrom 6:00 PM to 5:00 PM,of the August 22, 2017 meeting
was made and approved.
Discussion and Motion to Amend the Unattended Children Policy
The Board members reviewed the amended Unattended Children Policy.Drinking has been removed
from this policy, but remains in the overall Patron Conduct Policy which states that beverages in
closed containers are acceptable.A motion to approve the policy,as presented,was madeand
approved.

Grand Ave Auditorium Policy; Discussion to change time of September/ October meetings.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
The Victorian Days Walking Tour on Grand Avenue is scheduledon Saturday, August 26th beginning
at 1:30 PM at Grand Avenue Library.

A big thank you to Library staff member Iunisi Afuha’amangofor setting a greatcustomer services
example in assisting Pat FitzPatrick.
