You are invited to offer your suggestions. In order that you may know our method of conducting Library
business, we proceed as follows:
The regular meetings of the Library Board of Trustees are held on the fourth Tuesday of each month at
6:00 PMin the Main Library, Auditorium, 840 West Orange Avenue,South San Francisco, California.
Public Comment
: For those wishing to address the Board of Trustees on any Agenda or non-Agendized item,
please complete a Speaker Card available from the Main Library and submit it to the Library's Administrative
Assistant. Please be sure to indicate the Agenda Item # you wish to address or the topic of your public
comment. California law prevents the Board of Trustees from taking action on any item noton the Agenda
(except in emergency circumstances). Your question or problem may be referred to staff for investigation or
action (or both) where appropriate or the matter may be placed on a future Agenda for more comprehensive
action or a report. When your name is called, please state your name and address(optional) for the Minutes.
COMMENTS ARE LIMITED TO THREE (3) MINUTES PER SPEAKER. Thank you for your cooperation.
The Library Board President will read successively the items of business appearing on the Agenda. As she
completes reading an item, it willbe ready for Board discussion or action.

CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order at 6:00P.M. in the Main Library.
ATTENDANCE
Library Trustees present: Diane Huddleston, Cisca Hansen, Pat FitzPatrick, and Robert
Turnberg.Excused absence: Valerie Lambertson. Library staff present: Valerie Sommer,
Library Director; Adam Elsholz, Assistant Library Director;Elia Moreno, Administrative
AssistantI.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The listing of approval of minutes on the agenda was corrected to January 23, 2018. The minutes
of the regular January23,2018meeting were approved by acclamation.

DIRECTOR’S REPORT
The Board reviewed the Director’s Report.A copy of the Emergency Action Plan will be
emailed to all Library Board members.

Library Openings and RecruitmentUpdates
Therecruitmentfor theLiteracy Services Coordinator at the CommunityLearning Center is
currently open.Theunfilled entry level Librarian position will remain open at this time.
New Main Library/Community Center Planning Update
Library Director and Assistant Library Director have been attending meetings to discuss thejoint
vision for the new Main Library/Community Center. Meetings also involvevarious exercises
with the intent tolearn how to join the two departments under one facilityand have unity with
programs.Library and Parks and Recreation will be meeting with Gyroscope Inc., to review the
different servicesand ideastheyhave to offer for interactive exhibits.Community outreach
planning will beginshortly.

NEW BUSINESS
Policies Approved by the Library Board of Trustees
The Library Board of Trustees discussed and reviewed all Library Policies.A motion to cancel
the Blog Content Policy was made and approved.A motion to reaffirm all of the following
policies, as written,was made and approved: Bulletin Board and Free Literature Policy,
Community Center Room Use Policy, Confidentiality Policy, Grand Library Meeting Room
Policy, ID Required to Obtain Library Card Policy, Internet and Computer Use Policy, Library
Use Policy, Main Library Auditorium Policy, Materials Selection, Deselection and Access
Policy, Out of County Inter-Library Loan Policy, and the Unattended Children Policy. A motion
to amend the Suspension of Library Privileges Policy was made, secondedand approved.
Local Library Comparisons
The Library Board reviewed theSouth San Francisco Library Square Footage by Space and the
LocalLibrary Square Footage Comparison.Assistant Library Director, Adam Elsholz, measured
and compared the number of service points in the Libraryas they are currently,versushow they
will be in the New Library/Community Center.
Review of Master Fee Schedule
The Library Board reviewed the2017–2018Master Fee Schedule and directed no changes for
nextfiscal year.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
The Main Library will be hosting twospecialauthor talks in March. First, Co-AuthorsLaura
Atkins and Stan Yogi will be discussing their book, Fred Korematsu Speaks Up, on Saturday,

March 3.OnTuesday, March 13, Wayne Wiegand will be discussing the history of
America’s Public Libraries in his book, Part of Our Lives: A People’s History of the American
Public Library.
