You are invited to offer your suggestions. In order that you may know our method of conducting Library
business, we proceed as follows:
The regular meetings of the Library Board of Trustees are held on the fourth Tuesday of each month at
6:00 PM in the Main Library, Auditorium, 840 West Orange Avenue
,South San Francisco, California.
Public Comment
: For those wishing to address the Board of Trustees on any Agenda or non-Agendized item,
please complete a Speaker Card available from the Main Library and submit it to the Library's Administrative
Assistant. Please be sure to indicate the Agenda Item # you wish to address or the topic of your public
comment. California law prevents the Board of Trustees from taking action on any item not on the Agenda
(except in emergency circumstances). Your question or problem may be referred to staff for investigation or
action (or both) where appropriate or the matter may be placed on a future Agenda for more comprehensive
action or a report. When your name is called, please state your name and address(optional) for the Minutes.
COMMENTS ARE LIMITED TO THREE (3) MINUTES PER SPEAKER. Thank you for your cooperation.
The Library Board President will read successively the items of business appearing on the Agenda. As she
completes reading an item, it will be ready for Board discussion or action.

a)Local writer, Donna Fentanes will be discussing her first book, The Plight of the Hare & Other
Stories from the Shoe.In this author talk, the writer and mother of ten will speak ofrelatable stories
th
about life, parenting and mommy’ing on Saturday, May 5 beginning at 2:00 PM in the Main
Library.
b)Bringing history into the present,And Then They Came for Us,retells the story from the passing of
Executive Order 9066 and follows the story of Japanese American activists.In collaboration with
the South San Francisco Asian American Alliance, the Main Library will be hosting amovie
screening followed by a panel discussion on Thursday, May 10th at 6:00 PM. The discussion panel
will include film director, Abby Ginzberg; SSF Mayor Pro Tempore, Karyl Matsumoto; SSF Asian
American Alliance Board Member, Hilda Barradas; and Steve Okamoto of TACMC.
c)The South San Francisco Friends of the Library will be having their Spring Book Sale on Saturday,

May 12 from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM in the Main Library Auditorium.

The meeting was called to order at 6:00P.M. in the Main Library.

Library Trustees present: Cisca Hansen, Pat FitzPatrick, and Robert Turnberg.Library staff
present: Valerie Sommer,Library Director;and Elia Moreno, Administrative AssistantI.

NEW BUSINESS
Community Civic Campus Project Update and Design Input –Smithgroup and staff
Assistant City Manager, Marian Lee and SmithGroupJJR architects gave two presentations
regarding updates and newsaboutthe Community Civic Campus Project.Marian Lee described
the historyof the new building (beginning from the passing of Measure W),goalsfor providing
public servicesat the new facilities,and some of the processestowards the creation ofthe new
community center. SmithGroupJJRarchitects gave the second presentation, with updates and
ideas ondesign forthe new community civic campus.At the end of the presentations, members
of the public were invited to give input on the working project.
