In order that you may know our method of conducting Library business, we proceed as follows: The regular meetings of the Library Board of Trustees are held on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 6:00 PMin the Main Library, Auditorium, 840 West Orange Avenue,South San Francisco, California. Public Comment : For those wishing to address the Board of Trustees on any Agenda or non-Agendized item, please complete a Speaker Card available from the Main Library and submit it to the Library's Administrative Assistant. Please be sure to indicate the Agenda Item # you wish to address or the topic of your public comment. California law prevents the Board of Trustees from taking action on any item noton the Agenda (except in emergency circumstances). Your question or problem may be referred to staff for investigation or action (or both) where appropriate or the matter may be placed on a future Agenda for more comprehensive action or a report. When your name is called, please state your name and address (optional) for the Minutes. COMMENTS ARE LIMITED TO THREE (3) MINUTES PER SPEAKER. Thank you for your cooperation. The Library Board President will read successively the items of business appearing on the Agenda. As she completes reading an item, it will be ready for Board discussion or action. ATTENDANCE Library Trustees present:Pat FitzPatrick,Robert Turnberg, Diane Huddleston and Cisca Hansen. Library staff present: Valerie Sommer, Library Director;Adam Elsholz, Assistant Library Director;andElia Moreno, Administrative AssistantII.Guests:Leslie Fong; Mary Giusti;and Steven Yee. APPROVAL OF MINUTES The minutes of the regular August 28,2018meeting were approved with one minor correctionin the public comments. PUBLIC COMMENTS No public comments. DIRECTOR’S REPORT The Board reviewed the Director’s Report.An updated events calendar was passed out to the board members. A total of 35 qualified applications have been turned in for the Librarian positions. The Supervising Library Specialist recruitment will be extended for one more week.Oral Board examinationsare tentatively scheduled for the end of October. Community Civic Campus Project Update th City Council Fifty percent of the schematicdesign is set to be completed by the October 24 meeting.The additional 5,000 square feetofLibraryspace,will beshared withCity Council/Community Theatremeetings and performancesuntil a Council Chambers/Community Theatercan be built. If funding permits, the separateCity Councilmeeting and performance event facilitywill be built at the same time as the Library is built. Iffunding is not available at that time, it will be delayed to a future date. South San Francisco Public Library Board of TrusteesPage 2Unapproved Minutes –September 25, 2018 NEW BUSINESS Discussion on November Joint Meeting with the Parks and Recreation Commission Discussion of the November Joint Meeting with Parks and Recreation Commission was made. Library Board is agreeable on scheduling a joint meeting in November to replace their regular meeting. Further discussionand a motionwill be made at the October 23, 2018 meeting. Discussion on Moving the Library Board Office Nominations to the October 23, 2018 Meeting While nominations are typically scheduled for the November meeting, the Library Boardagreed to move LibraryBoard Office Nominationstothe October 23, 2018 meeting. Discussion and Motion to Cancel the Regular Meeting of December 25, 2018 A motion to approve the cancellation of the regular meeting on December 25, 2018 was made, secondedand approved. Discussion and Motion to Participate in the Holiday Food for Fines Program Again this Year The Library Board discussed the participationin the 2018 HolidayFood for Fines program.A motion to participate was made, seconded and approved. AGENDA BUILDING Holiday 2019 Schedule; Discussion and Motion on November joint meeting with the Parks and Recreation Commission; Library Board Officer Nominations; New Main Library/Community Center Planning Update; Library Openings and Recruitments. ANNOUNCEMENTS Highlighted announcement: The League of Women Voters of North and Central San Mateo County will be providing information on San Mateo County’s upcoming ballot measures on th October 11at 6:00 p.m. at the Main Library. This program is nonpartisan, and will help you learn all of the pros and cons of the state and regional ballot measures on the November 2018 ballot. GOOD AND WELFARE Cisca Hansen shared information on Bookleggers;ACastro Valley Public Library program that hosts volunteerswhovisit classrooms in the Castro Valley Unified School District to share books and help promote independent reading. In-person outreach Ongoing Flyers, bookmarks Digital card follow TBD Follow up mailers sent by each jurisdiction to Instant Digital upCard subscribers, urging full library card sign-up Overdrive Instant Digital Card Details (IDC) Signups August - September 2018: 478 How IDC works With IDC, users are able to create an account in PLS OverDrive using their mobile phone number. Users see a prompt on the log-in screen of the OverDrive website and in the OverDrive and Libby apps. Users provide their name and mobile number, and OverDrive looks up their address using a third-party service called Cognito. If their recent address matches a zip code in the PLS service area, Overdrive issues them access using their mobile number to sign in. About IDC Accounts IDC accounts can be merged in the same way that accounts are currently merged through Overdrive’s marketplace. IDC cards are good for 3 years. A customer can potentially have a library card AND an IDC account.
