You are invited to offer your suggestions. In order that you may know our method of conducting Library
business, we proceed as follows:
The regular meetings of the Library Board of Trustees are held on the fourth Tuesday of each month at
6:00 PMin the Main Library, Auditorium, 840 West Orange Avenue,South San Francisco, California.
Public Comment
: For those wishing to address the Board of Trustees on any Agenda or non-Agendized item,
please complete a Speaker Card available from the Main Library and submit it to the Library's Administrative
Assistant. Please be sure to indicate the Agenda Item # you wish to address or the topic of your public comment.
California law prevents the Board of Trustees from taking action on any item noton the Agenda (except in
emergency circumstances). Your question or problem may be referred to staff for investigation or action (or
both) where appropriate or the matter may be placed on a future Agenda for more comprehensive action or a
report. When your name is called, please state your name and address (optional) for the Minutes. COMMENTS
ARE LIMITED TO THREE (3) MINUTES PER SPEAKER. Thank you for your cooperation.
The Library Board President will read successively the items of business appearing on the Agenda. As she
completes reading an item, it will be ready for Board discussion or action.

11:00 am –4:30 pm. Joinusfor winter crafts, movies, snacks and a special performance by the
Parkway Heights Middle School Woodwinds.
b)The upcoming holiday library schedules are as follows:

Christmas –Both libraries will be open 10:00 am –1:00 pm Monday, December 24and closed

CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order at 6:00P.M. in the MainLibrary.
ATTENDANCE
Library Trustees present:Pat FitzPatrick,Robert Turnberg, Diane Huddleston and Cisca Hansen.
Library staff present: Valerie Sommer, Library Director;Adam Elsholz, Assistant Library

Community Civic Campus Project Update

. The Library and the
Fifty percent of the schematic design was delivered on Friday, October 19
Parks and Recreation departments have been given a two-week review period for any comments
and feedback. The new community civic campus will have 30,000 square feet of library space
and 4,000 square feet of shared space withthe Parksand Recreation Department. Project

architects, SmithGroup,will be presenting the 50% schematic design at the November 14City

Council meeting and at theLibrary Boardof Trustees meeting onNovember 27.

NEW BUSINESS
Presentation: PLS Commuter Campaign –Anissa Malady, Library Program Manager
Presentation ofthe Peninsula Library System (PLS) Commuter Campaign was made by
Reference Program ManagerAnissa Malady. Planned bythe PLS Marketing Committee, the
PLS Commuter Campaign has been granted $10,000 of system funds for advertising e-services
and promoting the Instant Digital Card (IDC).The OverDrive IDC allows library patronsto
digitally sign up for library cardsthrough the OverDrive website and, in the OverDrive and
Libby apps. Since September, there have been over 500 digital library cards sign ups, and over
600 circulations of eBooks.Some of the advertising strategies include: ad cards on all SamTrans
buses, digital billboards, van wraps on all PLS delivery vans and ongoing social media and in-
person advertising.
Follow Up Discussion on Joint Meeting with the Parks and Recreation Commission
Due to a change in meeting dates as well as board member/commissioner availability, the joint
meeting with the Parks and Recreation Commission will no longer takeplace in November. The

Library Board will be having their regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, November 27at
6:00 P.M., with a Smithgroup presentation planned for this date.
Discussion and Motion to Approve the 2019 Holiday Schedule
A motion to approve the 2019 Holiday Schedule was made and approved.
Nominations for 2019 Slate of Officers
Nominations of officers were made as follows: Pat FitzPatrick as President; Diane Huddleston as
Vice President; Robert Turnberg as Secretary. The official election of officers is scheduled to
take place during the January 22, 2019 meeting.
