In order that you may know our method of conducting Library business, we proceed as follows: The regular meetings of the Library Board of Trustees are held on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 6:00 PMin the Main Library, Auditorium, 840 West Orange Avenue,South San Francisco, California. Public Comment: For those wishing to address the Board of Trustees on any Agenda or non-Agendizeditem, please complete a Speaker Card available from the Main Library and submit it to the Library's Administrative Assistant. Please be sure to indicate the Agenda Item # you wish to address or the topic of your public comment. California law prevents theBoard of Trustees from taking action on any item noton the Agenda (except in emergency circumstances). Your question or problem may be referred to staff for investigation or action (or both) where appropriate or the matter may be placed on a future Agenda for more comprehensive action or a report. When your name is called, please state your name and address (optional) for the Minutes. COMMENTS ARE LIMITED TO THREE (3) MINUTES PER SPEAKER. Thank you for your cooperation. The Library Board President will read successively the items of business appearing on the Agenda. As she completes reading an item, it will be ready for Board discussion or action. ATTENDANCE Library Trustees present:Pat FitzPatrick, Diane Huddleston, Robert Turnberg, Liru ChinandMary Giusti.Library staff present: Valerie Sommer, Library Director; Adam Elsholz, Fundraising Coordinator/Assistant Library Director;Shawnte Santos, Acting Assistant Library Director;and Elia Moreno, Administrative AssistantII.Guests: Karla Bourdon, LiteracyProgram Manager; Frances Ulrich, Literacy Services Coordinator; andKumkum Gupta, SSFPL Foundation President. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Motion to approve the minutes fromtheJuly 23, 2019meeting was made, seconded and approved. PUBLIC COMMENTS Kumkum Gupta statedthat the Library has been looking great and continues to remain busy. DIRECTOR’S REPORT The Board reviewed the Director’s Report. Testing for the available hourly clerk positions was held on Monday, August 26, 2019. A total of 12 people attended and took the test. New Main Library and Community Center Update TheCommunityCivic Campus project team will be presenting the 50% Design Development plans covering the exterior “skin” concept, preliminary floor plans for the building and the City Council/community theater facility, and another review of the site and parkplan to the public during the months of September and October, beginning with the Parks and Recreation Commission meeting on Tuesday, September 17, 2019 at 7:00 P.M. and, followed by the Library Board of Trustees meeting on Tuesday, September 24, 2019 at 6:00 P.M.Presentation to the South San Francisco City Council will be made on Wednesday, October 9, 2019 at 7:00 P.M.A flyer listing the public meetings was distributed to the Library Board members. Finishes, furniture, lighting, etc. are pending. The Design Development phase is to be completed November1. South San Francisco Public Library Board of TrusteesPage 2Unapproved Minutes –August 29, 2019 NEW BUSINESS New Staff Introductions Frances Ulrich introduced herself as the new Project Read, Literacy Services Coordinator for family and children’sservices. Frances previously workedas a part time employee for the Community Learning Center. Currently, she has been successful in securinga $35,000 grant from the Woodlawn Foundation to help supportProject Read’sLearning Wheelsprogram. New hire, Monterey Gordon’s staff introduction has been rescheduledto a future Library Board of Trustees meeting. Discussion and Motion to Amend the Main Library Auditorium Use Policy The Library Board of Trustees reviewed theMain Library Auditorium Use Policy. Amotion to approve the revisions of theMain Library Auditorium Use Policywas made, seconded and approved. Discussionand Motionto Amend the Grand Library Meeting Room Use Policy The Library Board of Trustees reviewed the Grand Library Meeting Room Use Policy. A motion to approve the revisions of the Grand Library Meeting Room Use Policy was made, seconded and approved. AGENDA BUILDING New Staff Introductions; Library Openings& Recruitments; New Main Library and Community Center Update; Presentation by the SmithGroup on the NewCommunity Civic Campus Project; Robotics Competition Presentation; Nominations for 2020 Slate of Officers; Cancellation of December 2019 meeting. ANNOUNCEMENTS The Book Club meets every third Tuesday of the month, 6:00 P.M at the Main Library. The September Book Club selection is Educatedby Tara Westover. The South San Francisco Friends of the Library Fall Book Sale will be Saturday, September 28, 2019 at the Main Library Auditorium from 10:00 A.M. –3:00 P.M. GOOD AND WELFARE The Library Board of Trustees commends staff who helped put together the Library table at the Tuesday, August 27, 2019 Mayor’s Town Hall.
