In order that you may know our method of conducting Library business, we proceed as follows: The regular meetings of the Library Board of Trustees are held on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 6:00 PM in the Main Library, Auditorium, 840 West Orange Avenue,South San Francisco, California. Public Comment : For those wishing to address the Board of Trustees on any Agenda or non-Agendized item, please complete a Speaker Card available from the Main Library and submit it to the Library's Administrative Assistant. Please be sure to indicate the Agenda Item # you wish to address or the topic of your public comment. California law prevents the Board of Trustees from taking action on any item not on the Agenda (except in emergency circumstances). Your question or problem may be referred to staff for investigation or action (or both) where appropriate or the matter may be placed on a future Agenda for more comprehensive action or a report. When your name is called, please state your name and address (optional) for the Minutes. COMMENTS ARE LIMITED TO THREE (3) MINUTES PER SPEAKER. Thank you for your cooperation. The Library Board President will read successively the items of business appearing on the Agenda. As she completes reading an item, it will be ready for Board discussion or action. MakerGirl inspires young girls to be active in STEM through 3D printing and will help usintroduce 3D designand the 3D printing process togirls from the ages 7-10. c)In celebration of the Lunar New Year, the South San Francisco Public Library will be hosting two special story time readings. Author, Oliver Chin will be reading The Year of the Rat on Friday, thth February 7at the Main Library and on Friday, February 28at the Grand Avenue Library at 6:00 P.M. d)Book Club meets every third Tuesday of the month, 6:00 P.M. at the Main Library. The February 2020 Book Club selection is Moloka’i by Alan Brennert. e)Celebrate Black History Month with the return of Kirk Waller at the Main Library on Saturday, nd February 22at 1:00 P.M. Using spoken work, music and movement, Kirk Waller will bring African and African American culture and history to life! DIRECTOR’S REPORT The Board reviewed the Director’s Report. New Main Library and Parks & Recreation Community Center Project Update th to help complete the100% Design Library staff met with SmithGroup on November 25 Development phase. Floor coverings and finishes havebeen chosen; the children’s area will have more colorfulcarpetingwhile the adult areais a quieter space andwill have more sedate carpeting. The next update to City Council is scheduled for January.FFE (furniture, fixtures and equipment) will be coming up soon. Groundbreaking for the Civic Campus, starting with the Police Station, is scheduled for first quarter 2020. South San FranciscoPublic Library Board of TrusteesPage 2Unapproved Minutes –October 22, 2019 NEW BUSINESS Fundraising Update –Adam Elsholz, Assistant Library Director and Erin O’Brien, Parks & Recreation and Community Services Supervisor Assistant Library Director, Adam Elsholz and Parks & Recreation and Community Services Supervisor, Erin O’Brien, have beenhelping manage the fundraising campaign for the New Main Library and Community Center. The fundraiser kick off campaign was held on Tuesday, th November 12at City Hall. A$5,000 matchingchallengegrant kicked off the fundraising campaignto help encourage the community to support the New Library and Community Center. Adam reported a total of $22,647.69 has been donated by the community, aside from the $5,000 matching grant. Donations have been made through pledge forms (cash or checks) and online through the fundraiser website: ssfgives.org. An upcoming Chamber Mixer has been scheduled for January 23, 2020,5-7pm, Grand Library. California Library Association Conference Attendance Presentations –Brittany Austin, Adult Services Library Program Manager and Melisa Mendoza, Youth Services Librarian thth The 2019 CLA Conference was held October 24-26in Pasadenawith the theme “League of Extraordinary Librarians.” BrittanyAustin,Adult Services Program Manager,along with Adult Services Librarian, Stacy Lein presented on the SSFPL partnership with the San Mateo County Office of Sustainability and the programs held like the fix-it clinic. Library AssistantKatie Donner presentedon the Prom Dress Giveaway programand her collaborations, which she has hosted for three years in a row. Youth Services LibrarianMelisaMendoza, along with Supervising Library SpecialistBrian Malibiran, presented on their Escape Room programs, experiences and how they align with school standards. CLA gave the opportunity to reconnect with previous collaborators, create new connectionsand learnnew ideas regarding professional development, program ideas and partnerships. Allstaff members who attended learned a lot from the conference and hope to bringideas to implement at the Library. Some of theideas include: staff led mini-conferences, more community focused programs(i.e. help on City clean-ups)partnershipsand collaborationswith the community including local schoolsand other City departments, networking ideasand more.Attending staff also helped share and promote SSFPL programsto other libraries and collaborators.
