You are invited to offer your suggestions. In order that you may know our method of conducting Library
business, we proceed as follows:
The regular meetings of the Library Board of Trustees are held on the fourth Tuesday of each month at
6:00 PMin the Main Library, Auditorium, 840 West Orange Avenue,South San Francisco, California.
Public Comment
: For those wishing to address the Board of Trustees on any Agenda or non-Agendized item,
please complete a Speaker Card available from the Main Library and submit it to the Library's Administrative
Assistant. Please be sure to indicate the Agenda Item # you wish to address or the topic of your public comment.
California law prevents the Board of Trustees from taking action on any item noton the Agenda (except in
emergency circumstances). Your question or problem may be referred to staff for investigation or action (or
both) where appropriate or the matter may be placed on a future Agenda for more comprehensive action or a
report. When your name is called, please state your name and address (optional) for the Minutes. COMMENTS
ARE LIMITED TO THREE (3) MINUTES PER SPEAKER. Thank you for your cooperation.
The Library Board President will read successively the items of business appearing on the Agenda. As she
completes reading an item, it will be ready for Board discussion or action.

CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order at 6:00P.M. in the MainLibrary.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Motion to approve the minutes fromtheNovember 26, 2019meeting was made, seconded and
approved.

DIRECTOR’S REPORT

The Board reviewed the Director’s Report.Additional, City Hall will be celebrating its 100
year birthday. The City of South San Francisco is planning an event, more information to come.

OLD BUSINESS
Library Opening and Recruitments
Adam Elsholz, Assistant Library Director continues onspecial assignment. Brittany Austinwill
beacting Assistant Library Directorfor the next 6 months.Stacey Lein will be Acting Adult
ServicesManager. Diana Castro, Supervising Library Specialist has left SSF Public Libraryfor
a promotional opportunityin San Mateo County Library; recruitment for her open position is
pending.
New Main Library and Parks & Recreation Community Center Project Update
Groundbreaking for the Police Station at the Civic Campus is being planned forMarch. A
survey will be going out to residents asking about playground concepts and needs. The money
raised for the Library and Community Center does not cover parks. The City is lookingatgrant

sources for parkfunding.The next project updateis scheduled to be presented to City Council at

the February 26meeting.
Fundraising Update –Adam Elsholz, Assistant Library Director
Assistant Library Director, Adam Elsholz and Parks & Recreation and Community Services
Supervisor, Erin O’Brien, continue to manage the fundraising campaign for the New Library and
Community Center. The Friends of the Library $5,000challengegrantto support the New
Library and Community Centerhas been successfully met.The amount raised so far will be sent
out next week. Donationscontinue to arrive and are doing well through pledge forms,online
promotionand throughsocial media push.Recent largerdonations have been received: $10,000
from Summerhill Housing Group;$10,000 from ananonymous family donation.
NEWBUSINESS
2020 Election of Officers
A motion was made to elect the slate of officers as nominated at the November 2019 meeting:
Diane Huddleston as President; Robert Turnberg as Vice President; Mary Giusti as Secretary.
The motion was seconded and the slate of officers was approved by acclamation.
Project Read Trivia Challenge Recap –Karla Bourdon, Library Program Manager

The 27Annual Trivia Challenge was held on November 15, 2019. There were 343 people in
attendance. Thirty teamssigned up, ZapThink Tank won first prize. Amount raised after
expenses was $37,306.38.Karla thankedthe sponsors for the success and acknowledgedthe
South San Francisco Friends of the Library for their continuous supportand team sponsorship.
Strategic Plan 2016-2020Actions and Objectives Update
All but twoitems of the Actions and Objectives of the 2016-2020 Strategic Plan have been met
and checked off. Library Board Presidentand theAssistant Library Director will work on a
process toupdate thestrategic plan andidentify the length of time/life ofthe update.
