Please note that due to the COVID-19 outbreak, theLibrary Board of Trustees Meetingwill be
conductedby teleconference only pursuant to the provisions of the Governor’s ExecutiveOrder’s N-25-
20 andN-29-20issued on March 17, 2020 allowing for deviation of teleconference rules required by the
Brown Act andpursuant to the order of the Health Officer of San Mateo County dated March 31, 2020.
You are invited to offer your suggestions. In order that you may know our method of conducting
Library business, wewillproceed as follows:
The regular meetings of the Library Board of Trustees are held on the fourth Tuesday of each month at
6:00 P.M.

CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order at 6:00P.M. via Teleconference meeting (Zoom).
ATTENDANCE
Library Trustees present:Diane Huddleston, Robert Turnberg,Mary Giusti, Liru Chin and Pat
FitzPatrick. Library staff present: Valerie Sommer, Library Director; Adam Elsholz, Assistant

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
One edit on the bottom of page one of the minutes was mentioned after Board review; Project

architects, Capital Projects Director Jake Gilchrist andSmithGroup…at the August 12City
Council meeting.Motion to approve the minutes fromtheAugust 25, 2020meeting was made,
seconded and approved as amended.

OLD BUSINESS
New Main Library and Parks & Recreation Community Center Project Update
The project hasgone out to bid and isdue for approval at an upcomingCity Council meeting.

Bids from contractors are to be submitted by October 20. The groundbreaking of the project is
expected to be scheduled shortly after the review and approval of bids.Completion of the new
Police Department is expected for Fall of 2021.

Curbside service, mail delivery service continues at both libraries and computer lab

appointments continue atthe Community Learning Center. Beginning Monday, October 5, the
Main Library willbe a 29-day Early Vote Center.
Discussion and Motion to Amend the 2020 Holiday Schedule
The Library Board of Trustees reviewed the 2020 Holiday Schedule. The City of South San
Francisco has now voted to make the change from Christopher Columbus Day to Indigenous
Peoples Day. Motion to amend the 2020 Holiday Schedule was made, seconded and approved.
City Hall 100 Year Birthday Activities

November 11is the 100 year centennial anniversary of City Hall. Saturday, November 7will
be a celebration open for all with a performance from a band, and crafts and activities for
families. The celebration will be virtual. The 100 year anniversary will be recognized at the

November 9
City Council meeting.
Silicon Valley Community Foundation Voter Education Project
The South San Francisco Public Libraryapplied forand receiveda grant from the Silicon Valley
Community Foundation. The funds will be used to helppromote and educate residents on the
importance of voting through various programs and advertising methods (social media, handing
out flyers, etc.).The Voter Education Project will also help inform residents on how they can
vote during the pandemic.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
Normal walk-in Library services and programs are suspended while County health orders in
regards to the COVID-19 health emergencyare in place.

Mayor Garbarino’s State of the City presentation will be on Wednesday, September 23at 6:30
PM.
