New Main Library and Parks & Recreation Community Center Project Update

Construction bids were due to the City on October 20. The low bid was about $28 million
below the estimatedbudget. Announcement of the chosen bid will be most likely made on

Friday, October 30after the other bidders have had thetime to challenge the top bid.Furniture,
fixtures and equipment is not included in this bid; FFE will be selected and finalizedinthisnext
planning stage.A virtual or hybrid groundbreaking, with a small number of attendees practicing
social distancingand everyone else watching virtually, is expected to be scheduled in December
or January. Construction of the project is estimated to take about 28 months –anticipatedto open
in Spring of 2023.

NEW BUSINESS
Coronavirus, COVID-19, Response and RecoveryPlan
The County of San Mateo has movedinto the orange tier which loosens restrictionsfor
reopening businesses. South San Francisco, Burlingame, Menlo Park and San Mateo County
libraries are looking at modifiedreopeningsinJanuary 2021. At first, browsing the library could
be by reservation, with limited patrons and time in the building, social distancing, and cleaning
between shifts. It is anticipated that Curbside Pickup will continue until the library is able to
open closer to a fullservice model.
Discussion and Motion to Approve the 2021 Holiday Schedule
The Library Board of Trustees reviewed thedraft2021Holiday Schedule. Motion to approve the
2021Holiday Scheduleas presentedwas made, seconded and approved.

Normal walk-in Library services and programs are suspended while County health orders in
regards to the COVID-19 health emergency are in place.
Celebrate the centennial of South San Francisco City Hall with us! Join us on Saturday,

November 7with a fun, live performance by Sean Mendelson and his family band via Zoom. A

presentation of 100 years of City Hall will also be given at the November 9Special City
Council meeting.
