HomeMy WebLinkAboutAppendix D: Bird Safe DesignAppendix D: Bird Safe Design Strategy Bird Safe Design Strategy 300'300'Infinite 101  S Infinite 101  N Infinite 101  Garage The South San Francisco Zoning Code references bird- safe glazing for the first 60 feet of the building when within 300 feet of an urban bird refuge, but there is no current definition of urban bird refuge.  The project proposes to consider the slough and adjacent wetland a bird refuge and use fritted or ultra- violet hatched/fritted glazing where the facade of the building up to 60 feet in height is visible from  the project's southern property line to a maximum distance of 300 feet. The attached diagram shows the relevant areas. All other south facing facades of the project are completely obstructed by the  adjacent parking garage, which is clad in fine grained, densely patterned metal with no or limited glazing areas.This approach follows the intent of the model ordinance for South San Francisco's code,  which states "These standards also shall apply to buildings less than 300 feet from an Urban Bird Refuge if such buildings are in an unobstructed line to the refuge."
