AN ORDINANCE OF THE SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO CITY
COUNCIL AMIq~ING CHAPTER 20.85, DESIGN
REVIEW PROCEDURF.3 OF THE SOUTH SAN
FRANCISCO MUNICIPAL CODE RELATED TO LIMITING
THE REVIEW OF ADDITIONS TO ONE-, TWO- AND
THREE-FAMILY RESIDENTIAL STRUCTURES TO THAT
BY THE CHIEF PLANNER IN CASES WHERE THE
EXPANSION MAY BE FOUND TO CONFORM TO
ADOPTED STANDARD AND OR CRITERIA.
WHEREAS, Chapter 20.85 establishes procedures for the review of physical design of
development in South San Francisco;
WHEREAS, it is found desirable to expatiate and simplify the design review process for
additions to one-, two- and three-family residential structures.
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of South San Francisco does ordain as
follows:
SECTION 1. Chapter 20.85 of Title 20 of the South San Francisco Municipal
Code is hereby amended by replacing all occurrences the phrase "Planning Director" with
"Chief Planner" wherever it occurs throughout said chapter.
SECTION 2. Subsection Co) of section 20.85.050 of the South San Francisco
Municipal Code is hereby amended to read as follows: ..
(b) The design review board shall review design review applications, related
drawings, and other matters related thereto and make recommendations to the
planning commission and Chief Planner in accordance with the provisions of
this chapter and the design review guidelines with the exception of additions to
one-, two- and three-family residential structures as set forth bellow.
SECTION 3. Subsection (c) of Section 20.85.060 of the South San Francisco
Municipal Code is hereby added to read as follows:
(c) The Chief Planner may approve, conditionally approve, or disapprove
additions to one-, two- and three-family residential structures, not elsewhere
exempted from the procedures of this Chapter, without the Design Review
Board's review and recommendations if the Chief Planner can find that such
addition is consistent with applicable design standards and or criteria or with
conditions which cause changes to the proposed addition which will bring it
into conformance with said standards and or criteria.

SECTION 2: SEVERABILITY.
In the event any section or portion of this ordinance shall be determined invalid or
unconstitutional, such section or portion shall be deemed severable and all other sections or
portions hereof shall remain in full force and effect.
SECTION 3: PUBLICATION AND EFFECTIVE DATE.
This ordinance shall be published once, with the names of those City Councilmembers
voting for or against it, in the San Mateo Times, a newspaper of general circulation in the
City of South San Francisco, as required by law, and shall become effective thirty (30) days
from and after its adoption.

Adopted as an Ordinance of the City of South Francisco at a regular meeting of the
City Council of the City of South San Francisco, held the 26th day of duly ,
1995, by the following vote:
