AN ORDINANCE OF THE SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO CITY
COUNCIL AMENDING THE ZONING MAP OF THE CITY OF
SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO BY RECLASSIFYING 636 FORBES
BOULEVARD (APN 015-232-250) FROM PLANNED
INDUSTRIAL (P-I) TO PLANNED INDUSTRIAL/RESEARCH
AND DEVELOPMENT DISTRICT (P-UR&D)
WHEREAS, an application has been submitted to the city for the reclassification of 636
Forbes Boulevard (APN 015-232-250) from Planned Industrial (P-I) to Planned
Industrial/Research and Development District (P-I/R&D) by Genentech, Incorporated (the
"Reclassification"); and
WHEREAS, Mitigated Negative Declaration//805, assessing the impacts of the
Genentech "Central Spine" landscape and site improvements, including the Reclassification of the
property to the Genentech campus district, has previously been adopted by the Planning
Commission of the City of South San Francisco on February 1, 1996, at a duly noticed public
hearing, and has also been adopted by the City Council on July 24, 1996, at a duly noticed public
hearing; and
WHEREAS, on June 20, 1996, the Planning Commission held a duly noticed public
hearing on the proposed Reclassification, and recommended approval, to the City council of the
proposed Reclassification in Resolution No. 2492; and
WHEREAS, the City Council hereby finds that pursuant to Section 20.30.040 of the
Zoning Ordinance, Genentech has submitted an application for reclassification and the appropriate
documentation regarding the now-existing condition of 636 Forbes Boulevard, including the
following: (a) lot area; (b) building height; (c) building setbacks; (d) building floor area; (e) lot
coverage; (f) landscaping area; (g) parking spaces; (h) off-street loading areas; and (i) growth and
development projections pursuant to section 20.39.040(b)(3).
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of South San Francisco does hereby
ordain as follows:
SECTION 1. That the South San Francisco Zoning Map is hereby amended by
reclassifying from Planned Industrial (P-I) to Planned Industrial/Research and Development
District (P-I/R&D) that real property commonly known as 636 Forbes Boulevard (APN 015-232-
250) and more particularly set forth in Exhibit A, attached hereto and incorporated herein by this
reference.

SECTION 2. SEVERABILITY.
In the event any section or portion of this ordinance shall be determined invalid or
unconstitutional, such section or portion shall be deemed severable and all other sections or
portions hereof shall remain in full force and effect.
SECTION 3' PUBLICATION AND EFFECTIVE DATE:
This ordinance shall be published once, with the names of those city Council members
voting for or against it, in The Times, a newspaper of general circulation in the City of South San
Francisco, as required by law, and shall become effective thirty (30) days from and after its
adoption.
Introduced at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of South San Francisco

City Council of the City of South San Francisco, held the 1 athday of August ,1996 by
the following vote:
