Discussion and approval of Youth Commission Committee Structure.(Christina Fernandez, Deputy City

RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the Youth Commission discuss and approve a proposed Youth Commission
Committee structure.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
In 2018, the Youth Commission included a committee structure which encouraged youth commissioners to
participate in their particular areas of interest. Previously, the Youth Commission’s committees included:
Voter Registration Committee
The Voter Registration Committee may hold voter registration booths in the upcoming elections.
Voter Registration Committee members would keep youth in the community information of their
ability to pre-register and/or register to vote.
Human Rights Committee
The committee focused on ensuring equitable and fair policies with all groups regarding youth in
the city.
Environmental Committee
The committee focused on analyzing and sharing how environmental conditions, ordinances,
and policies affect SSF youth.
Archivist Committee
Essentially, the YC Secretary would pass down documents, awards, and even photo albums of
the youth commission to document the commissioners’ achievements for South San Francisco
and the community.
Education Committee
Focuses on direct communication between students of the South San Francisco Unified School
District and youth who may not attend schools in SSF but live in the city and are affected by city
ordinances.
Provide yearly reports to the youth of SSF on numbers, rankings, and evaluations of South San
Francisco schools, along with information on new initiatives, programs, and accomplishments.

FISCAL IMPACT
There is no fiscal impact to the City’s General Fund.
RELATIONSHIP TO STRATEGIC PLAN
The proposed committee structure meets the City’s strategic planning goal #6 - Community Connections.
CONCLUSION
It is recommended that the Youth Commission discuss and approve a proposed Youth Commission
Committee structure.
