Box 711 (City Hall, 400 Grand Avenue) South San Francisco, CA File #:23-982 Agenda Date:11/6/2023 Version:1 Item #:1 Commission Goals for 2024 (Jiancarlo Ray, Commissioner) RECOMMENDATION It is recommended that the Youth Commission discuss and decide upon goals for the 2024 calendar year. BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION Considering the December meeting might not take place due to the holidays; commissioners will decide upon goals for the 2024 calendar year. The mission of the South San Francisco Youth Commission is to “address issues affecting youth through collaboration with the City Council and SSFUSD School Board”. The Youth Commission provides youth with the opportunity to engage in local government while learning how decisions made affect daily life and how Boards and Commissions are involved in the process. Last year, the Youth Commission expressed an interest in setting goals relating to providing comments and recommendations on policies and legislation relating to environment and climate; civic engagement; and technology. CONCLUSION Commissioners will discuss and provide overall goals of the Commission for the 2024 calendar year. Box 711 (City Hall, 400 Grand Avenue) South San Francisco, CA File #:23-983 Agenda Date:11/6/2023 Version:1 Item #:2 Discussion and potential approval of a subcommittee structure.(Jiancarlo Ray, Commissioner) RECOMMENDATION It is recommended that the Youth Commission discuss and potentially approve the formation of a subcommittee structure. BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION In 2022, the Youth Commission formed various subcommittees relating to various commission interests. Commissioners were assigned to another commission, attended the commission meetings, and reported back to the Youth Commission on actions and activities. For example, a commissioner may have an interest in land use and be assigned to the Planning Commission. That commissioner would then attend the Planning Commission and report back to the Youth Commission at its next regular meeting on the activities of the Planning Commission. The City currently has 14 boards and commissions. They include: Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee Conference Center Authority Cultural Arts Commission Deign Review Board Equity and Public Safety Housing Authority Library Board Measure W Citizens’ Oversight Committee Parking Place Commission Parks and Recreation Commission Personnel Board Planning Commission Traffic Safety Commission Youth Commission CONCLUSION It is recommended that the Youth Commission discuss and potentially approve the formation of a subcommittee structure. BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION The youth commission has a unique opportunity to provide the youth perspective on a variety of public policy issues of interest to the commission. One mechanism to discuss and provide further input on various issue areas is through the formation of ad hoc committees. The purpose of ad hoc committees may be to ensure that commissioners are able to identify, discuss, and collaborate with other city commissions and other commissioners in furtherance of the work of the youth commission. Potential ad hoc committees may focus on environment and climate, civic engagement, and technology. Other ad hoc committees may be discussed and formed, if desired. CONCLUSION It is recommended that the Youth Commission discuss and potentially form an ad hoc committee structure. City of South San Francisco Printed on 11/3/2023Page 1 of 1 powered by Legistar™6
