RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF A
$1,700 GRANT IN REIMBURSEMENT FUNDING FOR BOOK
TO ACTION THEMED SUMMER PROGRAMMING FROM
THE CALIFORNIA LIBRARY ASSOCIATION IN
PARTNERSHIP WITH THE CALIFORNIA STATE LIBRARY
AND THE OFFICE OF THE FIRST PARTNER OF CALIFORNIA
AND AMENDING THE LIBRARY DEPARTMENT'S FISCAL
YEAR 2023-24 OPERATING BUDGET VIA BUDGET
AMENDMENT NUMBER 24.055.
WHEREAS, the California Library Association, in partnership with the California State Library and the
Office of the First Partner of California awarded a $1,700 grant in reimbursement funding to the City to fund the Book
to Action themed summer program; and
WHEREAS, the Book to Action programming will be implemented as activities in the Gene Mullin
Community Learning Center (GMCLC) summer program, scheduled from June 4 - 28, 2024; and
WHEREAS, the Book to Action program features one book, All Are Neighbors by Alexandra Penfold,
which will be distributed to all summer program students; and
WHEREAS, accompanying learning activities will include keeping our parks and neighborhoods clean,
identifying civic engagement opportunities, encouraging community volunteerism and projects related to sustainability,
community health, safety, and well-being; and
WHEREAS, staff recommends the acceptance of reimbursable grant funding in the amount of $1,700 from
the California Library Association in partnership with the California State Library and the Office of the First Partner of
California; and
WHEREAS, the foregoing grant funds will be used to amend the Library Department's Fiscal Year 2023-24
operating budget through Budget Amendment Number 24.055.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco that the
City Council hereby accepts $1,700 in grant funding from the California Library Association in partnership with the
California State Library and the Office of the First Partner of California to support the Book to Action themed summer
programming at the Gene Mullin Community Learning Center.
At a meeting of the City Council on 6/12/2024, a motion was made by Councilmember Nagales,
seconded by Vice Mayor Flores, that this Resolution be approved. The motion passed.
