ROLL CALL: Present: Commissioners: Fernandez, Foley, Huerta, Luster, Maharaj (6:35 p.m.) *, Palomino, Pomposo, Ramos, Sanchez Absent: Commissioners: None Staff Present: Greg Mediati, Director of Parks and Recreation Angela Duldulao, Deputy Director of Parks and Recreation Erin O’Brien, Business Manager Ercie Santos, Cultural Arts Specialist Keren Solano, Administrative Assistant II III. AGENDA REVIEW: N/A IV. PUBLIC COMMENT: N/A V. PRESENTATIONS  Introduction of New Commissioner  Specialist Santos welcomed Commissioner Bryan Palomino. Commissioner Palomino introduced himself and added he is a South San Francisco native and has a passion for art.  Cancellation of November/December 2024 Cultural Arts Commission Meeting(s)  Business Manager O’Brien presented the following options to the Commission for consideration: (1) Hold the November 26 meeting as scheduled and cancel the December 24 meeting. (2) Cancel both the November 26 and the December 24 meetings. (3) Cancel both the November 26 and the December 24 meetings and schedule a special meeting. (4) Hold the November 26 meeting and schedule a special December meeting. The Commission discussed the options presented to them.  Motion to cancel the December 24, 2024 meeting: Commissioner Ramos  Seconded: Commissioner Foley  Roll Call Vote Results | The December 24, 2024 meeting will be cancelled. (AYES: Fernandez, Foley, Huerta, Luster, Maharaj, Palomino, Pomposo, Ramos, Sanchez ABSENT: None).  The Commission discussed the option of rescheduling the November 26 meeting to November 12. The Commission decided to keep the original date of November 26, 2024. Cultural Arts Commission Minutes of September 24, 2024 Page 2  Subcommittee Reports  Art Gallery Exhibits  Specialist Santos informed the Commission they are welcome to submit an art entry for the upcoming art show if they are interested. Those interested have until October 7 and should use the link that was emailed to them by Specialist Santos. If Commissioners are interested in assisting with any aspect of the art show, they need to notify Specialist Santos by October 4.  Chair Pomposo announced there will be performances at the upcoming art show by the Parks and Recreation Mexican Folklorico dance students. There will also be a craft opportunity provided by artist Evangelina Portillo while supplies last. On October 12 there will also be a free solo artist talk by Claudio Talavera-Ballón in the Council Chambers.  Fundraising  Business Manager O’Brien informed the Commission that there was an artist row at Concert in the Park. The vendors in this row had a flyer with a QR code that directed people to the Cultural Arts webpage. The $50 vendor application fee will go towards the Cultural Arts fundraising.  Performing Arts  No Update.  Public Art  No update.  Strategic Vision  No update.  Youth Art Programs  No update. VI. MATTERS FOR CONSIDERATION 5. Motion to approve the minutes of August 27, 2024  Motion: Commissioner Sanchez  Seconded: Commissioner Luster  Roll Call Vote Results | Minutes for August 27 stand as sent. (AYES: Fernandez, Foley, Huerta, Luster, Maharaj, Pomposo, Ramos, Sanchez ABSTAIN: Palomino ABSENT: None). VII. ITEMS FROM COMMISSIONERS:  Commissioner Ramos invited Commissioners to attend the Filipino American History Month Celebration on Saturday, October 5 at the Library | Parks and Recreation Center (LPR) Banquet Hall from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. She also announced the fundraising event at St. Augustine Catholic Church on October 26. All proceeds will go towards the renovation of the Parish Hall. The event will be from 7:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.  Chair Pomposo invited Commissioners to attend the viewing of the documentary Nurse Unseen on Sunday, October 20 at 1:00 p.m. at the Library | Parks and Recreation Center (LPR) Council Chambers.  The Commission expressed their appreciation to City staff for their efforts in the successful Concert in the Park event on September 21. VIII. ITEMS FROM STAFF Cultural Arts Commission Minutes of September 24, 2024 Page 3  Specialist Santos informed the Commission she attended the Karyl Matsumoto Plaza Ribbon Cutting Event and encouraged Commissioners to go see the new sculpture at the Plaza.  Business Manager O’Brien and Specialist Santos announced the following:  Biotech Speaker Series on September 27. Registration required.  San Mateo County Office of Arts and Culture: September Arts and Culture Fest on Saturday, September 28 from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. in San Mateo.  Coastal Cleanup on Saturday, September 28.  Centennial Way Park South Ribbon Cutting on Sunday, September 29.  Festa Italiana will take place on September 29 at Orange Park.  Halloween Extravaganza will be on Saturday, October 19 from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.  Holiday Boutique & Makers Fair on Saturday, November 2 from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. IX.
