CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA
A RESOLUTION URGING GOVERNOR BROWN TO INCLUDE
LEGISLATION PROVIDING FOR STATE COLLEGE WITHIN
THE COUNTY OF SAN MATEO ON HIS AGENDA FOR 1964
SPECIAL SESSION OF THE LEGISLATURE
RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of South
San Francisco, that:
WHEREAS, legislation for the acquisition of a site and
the location of a state college within the County of San Mateo,
although passed by both houses of the State Legislature in
the 1963 Regular Session of the Legislature, was not signed
into law; and,
WHEREAS, this City Council has studied the need for such
educational facilities within the County of San Mateo and has
determined that the County of San Mateo will, alone, produce
approximately 8500 high school graduates each year, and thus
generate sufficient students to support a four year state
college; and,
WHEREAS, it is clear that the two state colleges in
adjacent counties, San Jose State College and San Francisco
State College, have each reached their capacity in expansion
and thus afford no solution to the problem of students from
the County of San Mateo and neighboring counties; and,
WHEREAS, the Board of Trustees of State Colleges has
recognized the great need of such educational facilities in
the County of San Mateo by assigning to this County the
classification of first priority for new facilities and
recommended that they should have been commenced in 1963; and,
WHEREAS, that the present insufficient facilities in the
Bay Area requires immediate attention seems clear to this
City Council from evidence that the time construction commences,
and an additional six (6) years is required for the full
functioning of such an educational institution:
NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY FOUND, DETERMINED AND
ORDERED as follows:
1. That Governor Edmund G. Brown is hereby urged to
include the subject of a possible four-year college to be
located in the County of San Mateo on his agenda for con-
sideration by the State Legislature in the 1964 Session of
said Legislature, and thus afford an opportunity to forcefully
bring forth the facts requiring the immediate consideration
and establishment of such college facilities.
2. The Clerk of this Board is hereby directed to transmit
certified copies of this resolution to Honorable Edmund G. Brown,
Governor of the State of California; to State Senator Richard
J. Dolwig; and to Assemblymen Carl A. Britschgi and Leo J. Ryan,
legislative representatives of this County.
I hereby certify that the foregoing resolution was
regularly introduced and adopted by the City Council of
the City of South San Francisco at a regular
