CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
A RESOLUTION OPPOSING STATE LEGISLATION TO
PERMIT THE TOWING OF TRIPLE TRACTOR TRAILERS ON
STATE HIGHWAYS 1N CALIFORNIA
WHEREAS, the City of South San Francisco is concerned for the health, welfare and
safety of the City and its residents; and
WHEREAS, the City Council is aware that state legislation is being proposed to increase
the size, weight, and number of trailers which may be towed by commercial trucks on state
highways in California; and
WHEREAS, the City Council believes that bigger and heavier trucks pose a serious threat
to highway safety because of their added weight and inherent instability, increasing the likelihood
of more accidents and more fatalities in such accidents; and
WHEREAS, the City recognizes and supports the League of California Cities' position
opposing all efforts to legislatively increase the permitted weight and size of commercial vehicles
including the number of towed tractor trailers, specifically "triple tractor trailers," as such
increased size and weight of vehicles, including towed tractor trailers, on the state highways will
jeopardize the integrity of the public infrastructure and safety of the motoring public on the road.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of South San
Francisco opposes state legislation permitting the towing of tripe tractor trailers on state
highways in California.
I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was regularly introduced and adopted by the
