ROLL CALL: Present: Commissioners: Fernandez, Maharaj, Palomino, Pomposo, Ramos, Sanchez (6:32 p.m.) Absent: Commissioners: Foley, Huerta, Luster Staff Present: Greg Mediati, Director of Parks and Recreation Angela Duldulao, Deputy Director of Parks and Recreation Erin O’Brien, Business Manager Keren Solano, Administrative Assistant II III. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE IV. AGENDA REVIEW: N/A V. PUBLIC COMMENT: N/A VI. PRESENTATIONS  Cultural Arts Funding Review for Fiscal Year 2024-2025 as of October 31, 2024  Deputy Director Duldulao presented the balances for the Commission’s donations/fundraising fund, public art fund and the general fund. She informed the Commission that staff received approval to redirect $57,000 in funds designated for graffiti abatement murals for other art activities. Staff plan to hire an on-call art curator/consultant to manage art installation related to capital projects and projects related to the Commission’s Annual Work Plan. The Commission discussed the balances presented to them.  Cultural Activities Grant Fiscal Year 2022-2023  Business Manager O’Brien proposed to the commission that the previously discussed forfeited funding from the 2022-2023 Cultural Activities grantees be applied to support a performing arts component to the South San Francisco Farmers’ Market.  The Commission discussed the proposal and agreed a performing arts component would be beneficial to the Farmer’s Market while also supporting local artists.  Subcommittee Reports  Art Gallery Exhibits  Chair Pomposo announced that the call for artists for the February art show will open on December 6. The theme for the art show is Finding a Path.  Fundraising Cultural Arts Commission Minutes of November 26, 2024 Page 2  No update.  Performing Arts  No Update.  Public Art  Commissioner Fernandez provided an update to the Commission regarding their subcommittee meeting. At the meeting it was discussed that commissioners wish to see more cultural representation in South San Francisco through mural artwork. The Commission is interested in learning about the process of bringing more murals to the city and discussed the possibility of partnering with local businesses and schools. They also discussed the possibility of revitalizing the electrical boxes around the city with artwork.  Director Mediati briefly walked the Commission through the mural process. Director Mediati also made note of some of the challenges with murals including city owned murals on private property. Strategic Vision  The Subcommittee noted that they are scheduling a meeting with staff to review the Annual Work Plan.  Youth Art Programs  Commissioner Sanchez attended the introductory meeting and informed the Commission they are expecting there to be more participants at next year’s Youth Art Show. VII. ITEMS FROM COMMISSIONERS:  Commissioner Ramos invited Commissioners to attend a fundraiser on December 15 for typhoon victims of the Philippines. The fundraiser will begin at 4:00 p.m. with dinner and the show will feature America’s Got Talent contestant, singer Roland Abante at 5:00 p.m. IX. ITEMS FROM STAFF  Business Program Manager, O’Brien announced the following:  The Commission reorganization will take place at the next meeting scheduled for January 28, 2025.  Sign Hill Holiday Tree Lighting at LPR on December 2 at 5:00 p.m.  Santa Comes to Town at City Hall on December 7 from 10 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Cultural Arts Commission Minutes of November 26, 2024 Page 3  City Council Reorganization will take place at the South San Francisco Conference Center on December 10 at 6:30 p.m.  Improving Public Places (IPP) Holiday Wreath Workshop at the Joseph Fernekes Building on December 14. Registration required.  South San Francisco Parks and Recreation Civic Ballet Program has three upcoming Nutcracker performances taking place on Saturday, December 21 at 1:00 p.m. or 7:00 p.m. and Sunday, December 22 at 1:00 p.m.  The Parks and Recreation Childcare Division is seeking donations of new and unused items for the upcoming Santa’s Workshop. Donations can be dropped off at the Joseph Fernekes Building until December 5.  Donations are also being accepted for the South San Francisco Food and Toy Drive.
