RECOMMENDATION It is recommended that the City Council consider the attached applications for appointments to open seats on the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee,Measure W Citizens’Oversight Committee and Youth Commission and that the City Council interview each applicant.It is further recommended that upon completion of interviews, the Council discuss and consider the appointment of individuals. BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION Pursuant to Resolution No.27-2009,the City Council holds biannual recruitment meetings to consider appointments to Boards,Commissions,and Committees.On December 17,2024,the City Clerk’s Office issued a Notice of Recruitment for vacant seats.The application deadline ended on Friday,January 17,2025.Four applications were received after the deadline and have been identified below and included for your consideration. Summary of Open Seats: ·Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee:One seat is open due to term expiration.The applicant may be appointed to a term expiring February 11, 2030. ·Measure W Citizens’Oversight Committee:Three seats are open due to term expirations and one non- voting alternate member seat is open.Three applicants may be appointed to terms expiring February 11, 2029, and one alternate to non-expiring term. ·Youth Commission:Six seats are open due to term expirations.Applicants may be appointed to terms expiring February 11, 2027. Summary of Meeting Times, Term Lengths/Limits and Agency Purpose The Bicycle Pedestrian Advisory Committee meets on the first Wednesday of every other month,at 6:00 p.m. Commissioners are appointed to four (4)year terms and are limited to three (3)consecutive terms.The purpose of the Authority is to serve as an advisory committee and make recommendations to the City Council on policy, programming,improvements,operation,maintenance,accessibility,and usage of bicycle and pedestrian facilities throughout the City. As an avid and regular cyclist and person who prefers walking around South San Francisco, I feel that I have a very good handle on the needs and concerns of citizens that are both cyclists and pedestrians. Likewise, I have a vested interest in helping ensure that these needs and concerns are heard and supported by the city. I am interested in being civically engaged in my neighborhood and community. As a member of this community, I want to contribute in whatever way I can to improve the lives of everyone living in it. My history is a diverse one that ranges from work as an entrepreneur and business owner in SSF, to a financial center manager at Bank of America, to currently being an educator and data scientist. I am interested in serving on one of the two Boards for South San Francisco. I am a recent resident of South San Francisco, my husband and I purchased our first home for our family here in 2019. Throughout the time I have been a resident I have met many long term and newer residents to the city through community events and my children's school activities. I believe that I can bring a new perspective grounded in the values of city and assist with the planning for a more friendly walking and biking environment. My position in district 1 and our location to many attractions via walking and biking make me an ideal candidate for the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee. I am also interested in the Equity and Public Safety I am a mom and a resident interested in getting more involved in our city. I have lived in the bay area for over 15 years and I have worked as an Assistant Dean at Stanford University for most of my career in higher education. My experience working in education and in our system at Stanford has provided me with unique perspectives and skills including facilitation and consensus building with others from many different viewpoints, budgetary experience and prioritizing programs for the most overall good, while managing competing needs and expectations. I have an undergraduate degree from the University of California, Irvine, in Psychology and Social Behavior with minors in public health and education. I hold a graduate degree from Colorado State University in Student Affairs in Higher Education. I would like to see South San Francisco be a city where residents keep the same small town feeling while being open and welcoming to new residents of our city. I would like to see more community wide events in pockets of our cities and neighborhoods. I've been a resident of South San Francisco for 25 years and want to get more involved in my community to gain a better understanding of how the city operates, how government works and how residents can help create a more sustainable community for future generations. I did a quick search on the SSF website and can't find a committee description or recommended requirements so this is a difficult question to answer without knowing the roles and responsibilities of what is required to serve on this committee. However, I believe a fresh set of eyes is one of the best assets to a board or committee. People that are not close to the forest, see things in a way that others may not, bringing new thoughts, ideas and perspectives. I've had to manage multiple budgets and understand the need to deliver on promises made and be fiscally responsible. Managing boards requires an incredible skill set of building relationships with a cross-section of stake holders, thoughts and opinions. I want to be able to represent my fellow residents.
