ITEMS FROM THE COMMISSION Secretary Battaglia thanks the City for improving the right turn lane at Avalon Dr. and Junipero Serra Blvd., which created a clearer view, making it safer to make turns. She also provided updates about the Senior Task Force and shares about some great programs and workshops offered for seniors. Vice Chair Camacho congratulates Chair Burgo and thanks Commissioner DeNardi for her time as Chair. Vice Chair Camacho comments that she liked the Annual Year in Review written by Director Mediati. Commissioner Lock shares his positive conversations with skaters in another city regarding the new skatepark on Centennial Way. He also shares his concerns about not having a restroom at the park. Commissioner Lock suggests possibly having some kind of scheduling system for participants at Santa Comes to Town to cut down on lines and minimize wait times for participants. Commissioner Rey comments that all the Christmas events were great and liked that Santa Comes to Town was back at City Hall. She suggests collaborating to integrate all the events happening on the same day as the Santa event, including the EAC market. She enjoyed the Tree Lighting Event but says it was a little disjointed, particularly the placement of the carolers. She comments that having dance classes at the Alice Bulos Community Center is a great idea, and suggests more lighting outside and adding portable mirrors in the rooms if they are to be used more frequently for dancing. She would also like to see some kind of donation event for families affected by the Southern California fires. Commissioner DeNardi asks if there ever has been a pilot program or a survey to see if there is an interest in having a women’s basketball league and if there could be one done if not done already. Commissioner DeNardi thanks staff for a good job in organizing the Thanksgiving Fun Run. She would like to suggest adjusting Trunk or Treat from four to three hours. Commissioner DeNardi would like to see more decorations or photo ops for Santa Comes to Town so people can take pictures and view the decoration while standing in line. She saw many families enjoying the event and thought the other events going on at Parks and Recreation Commission Minutes of the Meeting of January 21, 2025 Page 3 the same time were great. The dancing exercise classes are nice, but she would like to see the class have more exposure throughout all of South San Francisco. Commissioner DeNardi also suggests having prearranged activities advertised at the senior center where seniors can use the shuttle bus to get around as a group to the different activities which will help them get familiar with using the shuttle. Commissioner DeNardi shares an invitation and information from the City of Colma for the senior field trips. She’s seen families with young children at Centennial Way Park South enjoying all the offerings, but she would like to see a portable restroom there. She also shares that the bocce program is doing well with lots of participants. Chair Burgo agrees with the other commissioners that it would be a good idea to add a portable restroom on Centennial Way, at least until a way to add a restroom is figured out. She also would like to see a bathroom installed at the future Linden Park as a lot of residents have been requesting it too. Chair Burgo shares that she spoke with a couple of residents who are taking advantage of the open swim at the pool on Thursdays and hope that this will still be offered when the new pool opens. She asks for an update on Paradise Valley to which Manager Armanino gives a brief update of the current usage by the Child Care Program and plans for more programs. X.
