CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION MEETING

I. CALL TO ORDER: 6:30 p.m.

VI. PRESENTATIONS
On-Site Development Update Under the Public Art Requirement
Business Manager O’Brien presented the Commission with an update regarding on-
site projects under the Public Art Requirement for new development.
The Commission briefly discussed the art piece selection and inquired about installation and a legend to provide information on the symbols represented on the art piece. Business Manager O’Brien informed the Commission that staff do not participate in the art piece selection. She also added that the exact date of installation
is not available yet.

Art Gallery Exhibits
Chair Pomposo announced “Finding a Path” art show will open on Friday, February 7 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Author Mercedes Gharechedaghy will present select chapters from her inspirational book on Friday at 7:00 p.m. Artist Evangelina Portillo will jury the show. Commissioner Sanchez will recommend
the artist who will receive the “Cultural Arts Commission” award.

Youth Art Programs
Chair Pomposo informed the Commission that the South San Francisco Unified School District Visual Arts Committee met to continue planning for the 2025 Youth Art Show. The show will take place on Friday, April 11 and Saturday, April
12. Elementary through high school art will be represented in the art show.

2025 Cultural Arts Program Annual Work Plan
The Commission was appreciative of the compiled list of projects included in the Annual Work Plan. Commissioner Ramos suggested that staff seek event opportunities
for local artists and businesses.

Election of Officers
Chair Pomposo nominated Vice Chair Luster as the Commission’s new Chair. The
nomination was accepted by Vice Chair Luster. Followed by a second from
Commissioner Foley.
Roll Call Vote Results | The Commission accepted Vice Chair Luster as the new Chair of the Commission. (AYES: Fernandez, Foley, Huerta, Maharaj, Palomino, Pomposo, Ramos, Sanchez, Luster)
Commissioner Maharaj nominated Commissioner Foley as the new Vice Chair. The nomination was accepted by Commissioner Foley. Followed by a second by
Commissioner Fernandez.

Vice Chair Foley inquired about the possibility of using the Gallery Room at the Library | Parks and Recreation Center (LPR) for a spoken word event when it is not in use.
Business Manager, O’Brien, responded that this space is used for classes and meetings but
the idea can be explored.

Commissioner Huerta informed the Commissioners about upcoming classes through the
Renaissance Entrepreneurship Center. IX. ITEMS FROM STAFF
Business Manager O’Brien made the Commission aware of the Parks and Recreation Department’s 2025 Calendar of Events. X. ADJOUNRNMENT Chair Pomposo adjourned the meeting at 7:18 p.m.
