3. Public COIun1ents - comments were limited to items on the Special Meeting Agenda.
None.
Prior to con1n1enceIuent of applicant interviews, Assistant City Atton1ey Crossman addressed
pending ordinance 1395-2008 peIiaining to te1111S and tenu liIuits and the affect of the ordinance
on appointIuents. He advised the ordinance generally establishes four (4) year tenus and a
luaxiIuun1 of three (3) consecutive teIlliS for the City's Boards and Con1n1issions with the
exception of the Library Board and the Parking COImuission. The ordinance does not apply to
the Housing Authority and was slated to become effective June 13, 2008. Accordingly,
appointIuents n1ade during the n1eeting would be subject to the existing tern1 and term limit
provisions of the South San Francisco Municipal Code. He further advised specifically with
respect to the Cultural Arts COIun1ission that the appointIuents made during the Iueeting would
be to indefinite ten11S as proscribed by the operable ordinance. At SOlue point after the effective
date of Ordinance No. 1395-2008, Council could give consideration as to whether to in1pose four
(4) year tern1S on the various Cultural AIis COlUIuissioners on a staggered basis.
Mayor Pro TeIU MatsuIuoto stated her understanding that Council did not plan to stagger tenus
for Cultural AIis COIun1issioners due to natural attrition.
4. Council interviewed applicants to fill Board and Commission term expirations and
vacancies as follows:
1. Conference Center Authority Business or Resident Representative positions -
Fil da Cunha, Steve Dworetzky and Jim Metz.
11. Conference Center Authority Hotel Representative positions - Jiln McGuire and
Jay Singh. ** Council's interview of applicant Rudy Ortiz was tentatively
postponed to Council's next regular Ineeting due to technical con1plications
caused by the teleconference call service provider, which n1ade it in1possible for
Mr. Ortiz's interview to go forward during the n1eeting.
111. Park and Recreation Con1n1ission - Aldo De Ton1asi, Mark H. Nagales and Tony
M. J ara.
IV. Cultural Alis Con1n1ission - Charlene "Shane" Looper and Kelly Teglia.
v. Historic Preservation COlnmission - Richard Holt.
V1. Housing Authority Con1n1issioner Positions - Buenaflor "Flor" Nicolas.
V11. Housing Authority Tenant Comlnissioner Position - Efrain "Frank" Roman and
Tmnmy Lin Wong.
V111. San Mateo County Flood Control District - No applicants.
Prior to Council's discussion and balloting, Mayor Gonzalez requested that future Board and
Commission interviews be reduced to ten (10) n1inutes per applicant. He further requested that
the application for appointluent to the City's Boards and Comluissions include a space for the
applicant's cell phone number.
5. Discussion and appointInent of applicants.
1. Conference Center Authority Business or Resident Representative Positions.
After discussion, Council voted by ballot yielding the following result:
Fil da Cunha and Jin1 Metz were selected to fill the term expirations on the
Conference Center Authority in the Business or Resident Representative
Positions.
11. Conference Center Authority Hotel Representative Positions.
The discussion and determination(s) pertaining to these positions was postponed
until Council had the opportunity to interview Mr. Ortiz.
111. Parks and Recreation Comlnission.
After discussion, Council voted by ballot yielding the following result:
Mark H. N agales was selected to fill the vacancy on the Parks and Recreation
Commission.
IV. Cultural Arts Commission.
After discussion, Council voted by ballot yielding the following result:
Charlene "Shane" Looper and Kelly Teglia were selected to fill the vacancies on
the Cultural Arts Commission.

v. Housing Authority Con1n1issioner Positions.
After discussion, Council voted by ballot yielding the following result:
Buenaflor Nicolas was selected to fill the tenn expiration on the Housing
Authority as a COlnn1issioner. Tony M. .lara was selected to fill the vacancy on
the Housing Authority as a COlnn1issioner.
V1. Housing Authority Tenant COlnn1issioner Position.
After discussion, Council voted by ballot yielding the following result:
Tmnn1Y Lin Wong was selected to fill the Housing authority Tennant
COlnlnissioner tenn expiration.
V11. Discussion and appointment of applicant to the Historic Preservation
Comn1ission.
After discussion, Council voted by ballot yielding the following result:
Richard Holt was selected to fill the vacancy on the Historic Preservation
Con1lnission.
Vl11. Discussion and appointlnent of applicant to the San Mateo County Flood Control
District. As there were no applicants for the position, no ballot was processed.
6. Adjourmnent.
Being no further business, Mayor Gonzalez adjourned the meeting at 10:00 p.ln.
