ATTENDANCE Library Trustees present: Hector Camacho, Liru Chin, Mary Giusti, Diane Huddleston and Claire Ramsey. Liru Chin and Claire Ramsey attended virtually due to “just cause” absences and announced their attendance as such. Library Staff present: Valerie Sommer, Library Director; Adam Elsholz, Assistant Library Director; and Elia Moreno, Administrative Assistant II. Guests: Monterey Gordon, Catherine Abalos. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Motion to approve the minutes as presented from the May 23, 2023, meeting was made by Library Board Member, Diane Huddleston, and seconded by Claire Ramsey, Secretary. All members in attendance were in favor. Voting virtually, Claire Ramsey and Liru Chin attested to not having anyone present during the vote. PUBLIC COMMENTS DIRECTOR’S REPORT The Board reviewed the Director’s Report. COMMUNICATIONS: a) Circulation, Reference Questions & Literacy Services Statistics (Attachment #1) b) Library Articles, Issues & Programs (Attachment #2) c) Board Attendance Chart (Attachment #3) OLD BUSINESS New Main Library and Parks & Recreation Community Center Update Grand opening of the LPR continues to be tentative for some time at the end of September/Fall 2023. Workstations have been installed on the third floor. Furniture and bookcases are scheduled to be delivered by the end of July. Staff will begin trainings at the new building in August. Library Director plans to schedule staff and Board tours of the new building in mid-July. NEW BUSINESS New and Promoted Staff Introductions 22 South San Francisco Public Library Board of Trustees Page 2 Meeting Minutes – June 27, 2023 Congratulations to Monterey “Monte” Gordon for his promotion to Supervising Library Specialist. Monte looks forward to continuing to work with patrons with tech assistance, host STEAM programs, and working in the Amgen Discovery Center at the New Library. Library Closure and Move Update The Main Library on West Orange Avenue will be closed for the last time on Friday, July 7, 2023 at 6:00 PM. Hours at the Grand Avenue Library will be extended beginning Monday, July 10, 2023. South San Francisco Main Library will open on West Orange Avenue for the last time up to 6:00 PM on Friday, July 7, 2023 after nearly 57 years of service to the community. Services will continue at the Grand Avenue Branch Library, including children’s story times, Summer Learning Challenge, and many other events. Six beautiful, feathered friends perform over 25 tricks during this fun and educational show on Saturday, July 22 at the Grand Avenue Library. Visitors to the library will learn important facts about parrots. The show features two talking and singing Amazon parrots, colorful Macaws, and clever Cockatoos. Join Cascada de Flores at the Grand Avenue Library on Saturday, September 16, 2023, 2:00 PM for a presentation of el Brujo y la Sirena (The Wizard and the Mermaid), a musical story about the adventures of a mermaid and her wizard friend. This interactive family program invites you to sing and dance to the music of several Latin American countries, with their various rhythms, languages, and of course, a lot of different kinds of guitars! 5.
