How to provide Public Comment during the Meeting:
COMMENTS ARE LIMITED TO THREE (3) MINUTES PER SPEAKER
Under the Public Comment section of the agenda, members of the public may speak on any item not listed
on the Agenda. Pursuant to provisions of the Brown Act, no action may be taken on a matter unless it is
listed on the agenda, or unless certain emergency or special circumstances exist. The Chair may direct
staff to investigate and/or schedule certain matters for consideration at a future meeting. If there appears
to be a large number of speakers, the Chair may reduce speaking time to limit the total amount of time for
public comments (Gov. Code sec. 54954.3(b)(1).).
American Disability Act:
The City Clerk will provide materials in appropriate alternative formats to comply with the Americans with
Disabilities Act. Please send a written request to City Clerk Rosa Govea Acosta at 400 Grand Avenue, South

CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order at 6:01 P.M. in the Main Library
ROLL CALL
Library Trustees present: Claire Ramsey, Diane Huddleston and Mary Giusti.
Library staff present: Valerie Sommer, Library Director, Adam Elsholz, Assistant Library Director, and Erika Madriz, Administrative Assistant. Excused: Catherine Abalos; Hector Camacho AGENDA REVIEW

None. ITEMS FROM STAFF MEMBERS
Library Director’s Report- January 2025 The Board reviewed the Director's Report, which included updates from November and December 2024. Assistant Library Director Adam Elsholz shared that patron Christina Hong attended the last Friends of the Library meeting and had wonderful things to say about using the library with her
daughter after school, including the Makerspace, for which her husband volunteers.
Communications and Statistics
The Board members reviewed the Communications and Statistics. E-book and audiobook
checkouts have gone up, as well as library card sign ups, in great part due to promotion.
Library Recruitments Update
Youth Services Program Manager: Interviews are taking place. Project Read Program Manager: Recruitment has not started yet. Management Analyst II: Interviews have been conducted. GMCLC Literacy Services Coordinator: Recruitment will take place. Full-Time Librarian, Grand Library: Interviews have been conducted.
Youth Services Librarian: Interviews will take place based on the current list.
Project Read Trivia Challenge Recap
The Board members reviewed the Trivia Challenge 2024 Final Report. The event turned out very
well even with short staffing for Project Read. This year’s Trivia Night will take place November 7, 2025. SMCo Elections Early Vote Center
LPR will be an 11-day vote center February 22 – March 4, 2025, for the San Mateo Special
Election.

Election of Officers The Election of Officers will take place at next month’s meeting. Review and Approval of Draft Minutes of the November 26, 2024, Library Board of Trustees
Meeting
Motion to approve the minutes as presented from the November 26, 2024, meeting was made by Board Secretary Diane Huddleston and seconded by Board Member Mary Giusti. All members were in favor.
Discussion and Motion to Approve the Library Collection Development and Access Policy
The Board discussed and reviewed the Library Collection Development and Access Policy. Motion to approve the Library Collection Development and Access Policy was made by Board Secretary Diane Huddleston and seconded by Board Member Mary Giusti. All members were in favor.

Open Positions
1) Youth Services Program Manager. Previously held by Han-Ching Wong (now the
Community Resource Analyst, a shared position with Parks & Rec). Recruitment is pending.
2) Project Read Program Manager. Previously held by Karla Bourdon. Recruitment is pending.
3) Management Analyst II. Previously held by Angela Bernal-Silva. Interviews have been conducted.
4) GMCLC Literacy Services Coordinator (Bilingual). Previously held by Xochitl Cervantes, who is now the Literacy Services Coordinator for Adult Services in Project Read, (previously held by Stephanie Torres). Recruitment is pending.
