Pursuant to provisions of the Brown Act, no action may be taken on a matter unless it is listed on the agenda, or unless certain emergency or special circumstances exist. The Chair may direct staff to investigate and/or schedule certain matters for consideration at a future meeting. If there appears to be a large number of speakers, the Chair may reduce speaking time to limit the total amount of time for public comments (Gov. Code sec. 54954.3(b)(1).). American Disability Act: The City Clerk will provide materials in appropriate alternative formats to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Please send a written request to City Clerk Rosa Govea Acosta at 400 Grand Avenue, South San Francisco, CA 94080, or email at [email protected]. Include your name, address, phone number, a brief description of the requested materials, and preferred alternative format service at least 24-hours before the meeting. Library staff present: Valerie Sommer, Library Director; Adam Elsholz, Assistant Library Director and Anita Palafox, Administrative Assistant II; Erika Madriz, Administrative Assistant II. AGENDA REVIEW No changes PUBLIC COMMENTS None ITEMS FROM STAFF MEMBERS Review and Approval of Draft Minutes from the June 18, 2024 Library Board of Trustees Meeting Motion to approve the minutes as presented from the June 18, 2024 meeting was made by Board Member Mary Giusti, and seconded by Board Member Catherine Abalos. All members were in favor. Library Director’s Report – July 2024 The Board reviewed the Director’s Report. Board Secretary Diane Huddleston spoke for Library Board as a group are very appreciative of the services being offered by the library considering budget reductions and delay in filling open positions. Library Director Valerie Sommer mentioned she may move the list of book holds to handouts in the meetings if they are still not printing clearly. Communications and Statistics The Board members reviewed the Communications and Statistics. Staff Recruitment Updates Staff Introduction - Erika Madriz was introduced as the new Library Administrative Assistant II. Excited to be part of the Library team, comes from a position in the Stanford Law School office. She is a resident of South San Francisco and a library user. The Board appreciates the work Anita Palafox has done filling in until the position was filled. Recruitment updates: Current open positions are Youth Services Program Manager, Youth Services Librarian II and Management Analyst II. Assistant Library Director Adam Elsholz has temporarily taking over the position of the Youth Services Manager. New vacancies: Literacy Services Coordinator, position was approved for recruitment by City Manager. 6 South San Francisco Public Library Board of Trustees Page 2 Unapproved Minutes – July 24, 2024 Youth Commission Update The Library has assumed responsibility for the SSF Youth Commission. Meetings are held on the first Monday of the month at 6:30 pm in the Young Adult/Teen room.
